I raised three kids with a first gen access cab, which is even smaller. Two car seats fit, with the one behind the driver wedged a bit perhaps, if rear-facing type. But that's a short duration compared to the amount of time they'll be in the front-facing type. It's just not an issue. Honestly, it was when they get bigger and we went on long trips that the bolt-upright rear cushion and lack of legroom and resulting discomfort became the issue. I don't know if that's the case with the current extended cabs.

Thanks. That's another important consideration as I'd like to keep the truck for as long as possible - I don't think 15 years should be out of the question for a Tundra.

I will gladly lose 1ft of bed space on a crewmax vs a 1ft longer bed and smaller rear seating.

This feature was the deal breaker for my family.

When we are at a light or driving ahead of someone, they get me to roll down the window, turn around and state "that's right buddy, our window does go all the way down, does yours?"

They do wish they had power over the window and it wasn't a driver accessible feature only, but I like what little control I have over them

They'll fit, and makes it easier to reach from the front seat in a DC if they drop a paci or toy. However...they can't kick the back of my seat in my CM :angrygirl:

I can fit my jet ski or two dirt bikes with the tail gate closed in my DC. The back seat of the DC is roomier than any other vehicle I've ridden in, I would be totally fine riding back there for an extended time. Rather be able to haul toys easily and have decent comfort in the back versus a limo size rear seat and have to leave the tail gate down or need a trailer.

Yep, speaking specifically to the kid/passenger question and coming from my above-mentioned experience of using an access-cab to raise a family and only THEN, just recently, getting a crewmax, this entire thread boils down to this: The extended cab is adequate for passengers, but the crewmax bed is useless for almost anything. The best arguments for getting a crewmax are: 1) You gain a (really-cool) roll-down window; and 2) You get (much more) attractive rear doors.

Cool thing I did... wouldn’t work in a DC. Still have two seats in back. plenty of room for car seat and mommy. Front and rear seats have tons of leg room. Love my crewmax.

Maybe you can't put that tool box in front of the fridge in a DC, but the fridge fits fine and the seat is scooted back further than I have the driver seat back normally. With my girlfriend where she normally sits you can open the fridge easily while driving and camping.

If I didn't need the extra room in the back to put my kids on road trips I'd have bought a Taco.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the wheel
Base is the same on both trucks. One just has a bigger bad and the other a bigger cab but the overall length between axles is the same.

got my CM after having 4Runner for a decade, which means I have utility trailer for the truck type work, so the CM is a big plus for me, since the bed is way bigger then the cargo space in the 4R, plus as the wife so sternly pointed out.."now I can keep the interior clean by using the bed to haul my crap in!!" load of grandkids goes well in the CM as well.

Things that a crewmax can do, that a doublecab cannot
Real answer (if you dont count the top trims that Toyota should but doesn't offer DC as a choice) is roll down back window and put more stuff in the cab and less stuff in the bed.

    Not nearly enough room here!
One thing a Crewmax can do,(in my case) is force me to buy 2-piece fishing rods, because of the Ridgeline sized "truck" bed!:crapstorm::devil:
