You guys with the DC pictures are not making it easy for me to go to CM and give up my full length bed lol. I haul this 1-2 times per week and really don't want to jack with a hitch extender or have half of it hanging over the tailgate.

Because they know people who pay that much for a package aren't likely to need the bed space.

CrewMax is excellent if you have people with you. For me it was a big YES to CrewMax. I use my truck bed everyday. It is smaller but I’ve been able to make it work just fine. I have a trailer that I can haul things that are bigger than my truck bed.

The CrewMax cab is wonderful for my kids. We have three kids under 6 years old. With three car seats and kids climbing in and out it was essential to have plenty of cab space. During hunting season I can keep my bow, lots of camo, boots, accessories. During the spring I make a trip out west to turkey hunt. I pack the cab very full of my stuff as well as my buddies. It’s perfect.

One way that this debate could be settled would be for Toyota to make the PERFECT truck! I vote for a CrewMax with a 6.5’ bed!

I like them both and actually had a hard time deciding. For me it was the bed room, also thought the DC looked more like a "truck". I fit a 9 and 11 yr old and 2 black labs in the back of my DC. Plenty of room back there. Wish I had that window that came down though...

Right? Seems silly doesn't it? But if you account for the concepts of leverage and fulcrums, you understand in a lot of circumstances it increases the usable bed by twice that length. Trust me tho, I want to be convinced to buy the CM lol.

I just came from a Silverado 1500 crew cab standard bed (6.5'). While the bed was more useful and functional than the crew max bed, I always thought a crew cab standard bed looked funky on a 1/2 ton truck. I am glad I have the crew max now, it has more space than the Silverado crew cab. Sure I gave up 1' of bed space but the only instance that will hurt me is when I pick up dimensional lumber, and for that I can roll the back window down and shove it into the truck some :) I'd rather have the interior space than the bed space to be honest.

That eloquently sums up this whole debate.

And for those who don't think an extra foot of bed length is relevant, would you buy a CM with a 4 1/2 foot bed if it was available? Your turning radius would be greatly improved and parking would be easier, less weight so better economy. I mean, it's only a foot, right?

4.5' might be pushing it ! If i need more bed space I have a small trailer I can easily hook up and take to the home improvement store or load up furniture much easier with.

On thing I forgot to mention to, I have a 28' camper I tow. With my Silverado, that extra foot made a BIG difference when trying to park it in the storage lot with all the other campers. Shorter wheelbase trucks are so much easier to use when maneuvering a camper!

Yeah, if I had space for a trailer or another vehicle it would solve my conundrum lol. Oh well, first world problems, right?

Point well received lol. But, flip up the CM backseat and I have the option to let them rot after those people let me down :burnrubber:

True, but with the 5 1/2 foot bed and the tailgate down you are at 8 foot to the end of the tailgate. In the past year I have been hauling a lot of 12 foot material with the crewmax. My previous truck was a double cab, had to go crewmax for the platinum package. I was really worried about the smaller bed, but I have not regretted the change at all. But everyone has different needs. If I had to haul 12 foot material on a regular basis I would opt for the double cab

    A CM can F off,
    A DC cannot.

I wish I had a CM every time the fam is squishing into my DC. I also have the bed stuffed full steady. Like in the pic.

I like the way the rear door handle looks I’m ok with it.

I’m ridiculous jealous of CM rolling rear glass and wish I had that option. Also behind the seat subs.

All will be well in 2021 when the Tundra comes out with long bed CM ;)

the 6.5' bed makes the crewmax look so much more proportional. I've looked into it a lot only to discover every time it would cost just as much as I paid for the truck.

Guys i had 2 double cabs 2007 and 2014 ,never really had to use bigger bed space .Now i have 2018 crew max and couldn’t be happier.Got 5x8 utility trailer for my quad (never used double cab bed for quad anyway, hate ramps.)like someone on here said u can get a bed extender for that one foot if needed but you cant add 1 foot of cab space.I just love Crewmax symmetrical doors.Double cab doors not having matching handles always bugged me

I have a double cab and still use a hitch extender for my kayak and lumber. I just like things being flat instead of resting on the tailgate. Great looking kayak setup!

I'm not that strong lol. My fishing yak is about 100 lbs. I'm doing good to get it in the bed on a steep ramp or river incline.
