Good plans! I'm glad you made it through these crashes, and glad you're evaluating how to stay alive while you live to your limits. (I'm also glad the Truck is mended and you're mending.)

@osidepunker who is gonna call out the hazards in Baja? LOL The reason i hate being the first truck - its more fun being second and not worrying about oncoming

cost to fab, is about 800-1000 and shipping is probably about 200 ish for freight ground for a bumper, i know the guy who did it, he was not excited about building another on with the side plates very difficult, but if you talk to them they probably can do it, only issue is its a one-off so he needs a tundra to work off of, he doesn't have that setup for a jig.

Guess I need to take a trip to Phoenix. Turn a $1200 bumper into a $2300 bumper with all the gas it would take to get there

Thanks to TundraDude12 on tundra solution thread and my friend Beau for the parts info. Also thanks to @papasmurf and @SoCal619 for working out the correct measurements with me.

Most aftermarket wheels like Methods have a thicker hub face than OEM wheels. So when you install them the wheel studs are too short. You only get 4-5 threads of engagement on the lug. Method will tell you to get lugs that are ET, extended thread. They have a lip on them with extra threads. The problem with these lugs is that the lip can break off and get stuck in your wheel and then you can't get the wheel off. That happened to my friend @dragos28 and also @n2deep. when it happened to Craig, we were stuck on the trail in the middle of nowhere for a long time trying to figure out how to get his damn wheel off so we could change his flat.

So the solution is to install longer wheel studs. However nobody makes longer studs in the correct size so you have to get creative. OEM studs are M14x1.5. Get some Dorman studs, part number 610-471. These are zinc coated 9/16-18, 2.5" long studs.

For lugs get Gorilla 26195BC, 9/16-18, 2" long lugs, 32 pack.

I didn't do the rears because I have wheel spacers so I can't comment on swapping them out. I just replaced the studs in the spacers. The fronts were pretty easy. Take the brake caliper off then tap them out with a mallet. Now, the correct way to install the new studs is to remove the hub and press them in on the bench. But I didn't feel like doing all that so I just did it the ghetto way. Bend the dust shield a little here:

    20190512_121305.jpg

That will give you enough space to put a new stud into the hole. Then get yourself 4 or 5 open ended 9/16-18 lugs. I didn't use a washer, but it would probably help because the face of the lugs gets boogered. Using an impact, not a wrench, tighten the lug until the stud is fully pressed in. Go slow and be careful. I did all ten with no issues. Bend the dust shield back to where it was and install your wheels. Let me know if you have any questions.

    UPDATE:

New wheels are installed. The 0 offset bothers me haha it steers different and I've already rubbed up on a freeway barrier from huggin it too close

buuut they look pretty dope

I still have some Rock Warrior wheels for sale if you know anyone interested.

Gears and locker went in last Friday. DAMN what a difference. Nitro 4.88 with REM polish. Progear in SD did the install, great guys. Its not that gears give you "more power", but it feel lighter off the line and The Truck finally shifts PROPERLY. It will actually hold 6th gear at 80mph and cruzing around town it holds gears better for lower rpms. Definitely a WIN.

I still have a some plumbing to do and some misc stuff before my trip to Baja in June. But I'm getting there. Its going slow with the broken wing, but thats finally starting to heal up.

Oh, and I have to replace my steering rack fml...

HUGE THANKS TO BRUCE @papasmurf ! I could never have gotten all this sht done without his help. That is a good dude right there and his welds look good too ;) Hit him up for all your fabrication needs and he even does full builds and he's a certified cantilever expert installer.

Wish me luck! @papasmurf and I are gonna swap my steering rack today. We're gonna try and remove the front diff this time and see if that makes the job easier. I'll keep you posted. Baja with @n2deep in 6 days so I'm cutting it close. I have all the air locker plumbing and wiring done. Everything on The Truck is buttoned up and ready for dirt except for the front end. After we replace the rack I have to go over all the bolts and torques and get it aligned. Then I have to try and fix my damn VSC problem. I need to replace the clock spring because my horn stopped working, then try to do another zero point. If that doesn't work I'm going to have to replace the steering angle sensor. Not sure if I'll have time to do that before Baja.

In the next month or two I'm going to get serious about tuning my shocks. I've revalved them a couple times, changed pistons, and also springs. But I've been letting other shops do the valve changes. I'm going to tool up and start messing with stacks and do my own rebuilds. More to come.

Bud Built is almost done with my custom skids, 1/4" steel with ribs. I may not have it done in time for Big Bear next month so John Bull will have to wait...

Marlin Crawler is working on some reinforcements for the LCA mounts. I'm very interested in these as I've bashed one of my mounts pretty good and I had to cut half of it off in order to get new bushings in. So that is something I'll be working on this summer as well.

Oh and Bruce gave me header fever. I really want to install some long tube headers, high flow cats, and full 3" exhaust. hmmm may have to call my homie @dirtydeeds and see if he can take care of me...
