LOL... You guys like to have fun w/ it!

Speaking of fun with RC cars, I'm contemplating a build thread. Too late for beginning to end.

This build is WAAY fun and major COOL! Realistic as the real thing if you take your time and I have LED lighting planned that should blow minds.

You heard it first here! Hurry if you want one... everybody's gonna... but they come all the way from across the 'big pond.'

Tamiya Tundra High Lift with MFC-02 control unit. It's old-school: No LiPo's, strictly NiMh based power and I've pulled the old Futaba (T6XA-S) 7-channel radio/receiver from my Citabria to control it:
Kit wants a stick radio and the extra channels will come in handy.

    I'll name it: Total Darkness.

By the time it's complete everything should be black, including the chrome, like I want for it's big brother.

Check out the smoked tail lights and wrinkle-paint bumper! (tails and winkers... also has white reverse lights, horn, 3-speed trans, V-8 engine sounds and vibration are incredibly accurate - it even gets impatient when you idle too long... vroom, vroom. Add-Ons: Warn winch functional, tube roll bar with Hella spots, LED floods, etc.)

    Tamiya-Tundra_Tails-Off.jpg Tamiya-Tundra_Tails-On.jpg

Now: Back to our regularly scheduled programming...

@dittothat was just busting my balls because my ground game is garbage. I've got a SwitchPros 9100 powering all the lights, so that part is good to go. I've got a new ground bar on hand, just haven't had time to install it. So the stack of ground wires will stay until otherwise noted...

How many ring terminals do you think we can stack on one bolt?

Gotta be at least 8! If Jake were to use yellow ring terminals all fanned out he’d have multiple sunflowers under his hood

A winch on the front bumper would be too much weight with Icon shocks on the front. I am not even seen a bumper I like for the front that sports a winch.

Was thinking about putting a temp mount on both front and rear and put the winch in the bed when I am going out. Use when needed... if needed is the case. Had a winch on my LandCruiser for over 10 years and never used it to get out of anything but used it plenty to get others out for years. I did use it once after a very long day, we could see the exit but the hill side was so freaking steep. I walked to the bottom to make sure we could get across the wash in the bottom and up the other side. Crawled back up (literally with my hands and feet) and went down that steep sum bitch and when I got up on the other trail on top there was a big ass bolder in the middle of the trail and no room to squeeze by. My buddy pulled up behind and with the use of a snatch block I was able to get it very close to the edge of the trail going over the edge.

I would have bought a Demello but I would like to have room for a 40" light bar (already have the light bar) and I do not like their fitment. With as many posts' all over the internet you would think they would get a clue. Moving mounting holes is not a big deal and not a lot of work to tooling if they have that for this bumper

    Glad I asked winch-bumper Q:
In the teeny avatar pic @AZBoatHauler, I was seeing Demello https://www.demello-offroad.com/tundra-winch-plate-2007-2013 which is a bumper insert, rather than full clearance bumper.
As an alternative to total stealth (insert), response has me considering CoastalOffRoad https://www.coastaloffroad.com/product-page/2nd-gen-tundra-high-clearance-front-bumper-kit/ because, prior to powder-coat or Line-X, I can weld it myself with attention to detail, alignment and accessories like D-Rings and license plate location - the missing (or poorly executed) element on all of them.
Why eludes me: Simple as a tab and welded nut (x2). Don't want it... grind 'em off.

Receiver / Stinger front and rear: Common on the beach back in the day. I have a little Warn 1700 mounted on a plate welded to a 6" drop stinger. I can swap it in and connect to a battery in the bed at will, then winch the dory on the trailer.

    What's a dory doing in AZ? o_O
My son [just got a '19 Tacoma TRD-Pro] lives in Queen Creek. I've visited - all I remember is desert, 'cept Town Lake near PHX.

Pacific City dory fishing is unique for flat-bottom dory beach launching.
My brothers and I are buried in the culture. All three are dory captains now.
One of them started the Pacific City Dory fishing (all purpose) thread on iFish almost a decade ago.

Oh... WOW! A 1989 C-Dory 22’ Cruiser... and, it's beautiful! Got'ta read more about his 'boating adventure.'

What a great story-teller! Between that and this thread, I've reading material for a week at least. I'm reticent to interject (butt into) either/both stories too much. But DesertDory needs a TTT.

I think I’m on my 3rd iteration of light and license plate mounting, but I think it’s getting closer to done. Ended up with one SSC2 in the bumper (using a roll bar clamp until I’m sure this is where I want it and will get tabs welded on) and the other back on the bed rail. Hopefully this will keep the laser beam effect to a minimum when running chase lights.
    IMG_2822.jpg
    IMG_2823.jpg

Also finally installed the new unistrut rails that I’ve had sitting in the corner of the garage for a couple months.
    IMG_2831.jpg

And while all this was happening, I sampled some of the Texas beers @the Pigé hooked me up with.

Jake, do you have any pics of your front bumper from the inside? Is your fender liner completely gone at the bumper? Wanting to see what is required for the viper cut.
    Thanks!

Let me preface this with there’d be changes in how I went after this if I ever did it again… but here are some pics of what I hacked up
    IMG_3005.jpg IMG_3004.jpg IMG_3003.jpg

The shitty part about the viper cut is that you’re compromising the strength of the bumper cap no matter how you cut. The bottom supports of the cap frame keep the liner in place, the fog light level, etc. I’d like to eventually make some new liners with ABS or kydex but I’ll more than likely get a different bumper before that happens. I still need to wire wheel and paint the frame pieces that I cut. But I’m very lazy when it comes to finishing projects.

Okay, I see how it's done now. Thanks for the pics. I was in there today because I had a fog light I need to fix, and wondering how to go about doing the viper cut, if I decide to do it. Part of me wants to replace the bumper, too. The other part of me loves the way the trucks look with the OEM bumper. But, you got me at the weakening of the caps. Especially the fog lights, because they already bounce around annoyingly. So much that one of the wires in the harness going into the Diode Dynamics light broke.

I'm getting bad about working on my truck, too. I've got piles of parts collecting dust.

I won a set of SDHQ RXT shock guards at the T2S raffle last weekend, which I was super pumped about since I’ve been wanting them for a while. Install was pretty quick, probably under a half hour total.

You apparently have me mistaken for someone else. They are mad about me calling them on their mistakes and then the Owner started yelling at me from across the store. I don't take that from any asshole, I gave him a dose of his own medicine and he did not like that. He also put out a YouTube video about how he was tricked by a Dealership when he was buying a fleet of vehicles and it sounded exactly the way he pulled his bullshit on me so I posted up reminding him of that. I am not allowed on their channel anymore.

Decided it was time to wash the stank from T2P off the truck today. Did a foam cannon and bucket wash, and it looks better, but holy shit do I need to give this thing a once over with a polisher.

Then I remembered that my fog light busted loose at some point last weekend, so had to deal with that. Toyota sucks at making fog bezels. A few zip ties and a couple new holes has it back together. For now.
