It would’ve been fun to tinker with a set off the truck :sawzall::welder:

I’m sure he’d appreciate that! Glad you’re still loving the taco too.

Great. Something else I need. It'd go great with my Fire Missile button.

No, not really. Unless you put the AC fan on full blast, not much comes out of there

Just read through this roller coaster of a thread.... Great work on the rig and now following to see how it all goes.

    1. Bird watching goes both ways...
    2. How was Palo Duro? When I lived in TX for 1/3 of my life, the other person wasnt interested so I am doing a cross country road trip in a couple months. I plan on stopping there for a bit, but never made it so open to feedback.
    3. Love the truck and details!

    1. :spy:

    2. palo duro was amazing! We went in May and it was insanely hot already, so I recommend early spring or fall. We stayed in a campground in the bottom of the canyon, and it was pretty sweet. We went to caprock canyons state park for the last two days of that trip, and we actually liked that park even more. The big draw to both parks is the hiking, so if that’s not your thing, you might not get a whole lot out of it beyond the scenic drives.
There’s also Merus adventure park. Some dude purchased 6k acres of the canyon and opened it up as a hiking, biking, camping, and off-roading heaven. It’s worth a look of you want to Offroad a little or even just for the hikes.

    3. thank you! It’s a never ending saga :spending:

Unfortunately I will be there in August, so no break from the heat. I will be back in DFW the first week and then heading there after the weekend nerding out is done.

From there, the plan is to hike as much as possible on this trip. The next scheduled stop after Palo is Zion. But since I havent been to Palo and I know it is going to be balls hot, I am making sure to take things in a rushed less form.

Thank you for the additional ones, I will check those out and see about stopping there too.

I really miss Texas at times. That place is worth the hype. And now, I officially get to say all my ex's live in TX..... That said, that DFW heat is no fn joke!

We’ve had a few people die out there this season already, so please please be careful and make sure you have way more water than you think you need. When I went last year, we were up at 5 and on the trail by 6. Then we were usually done by 11-12 as the bajillion degree heat came to play.

    Lighthouse trail was amazing!
Rock garden was really cool too. It’s a climb from the bottom of the canyon to the very top, and you can hang out on the edge looking over into the canyon, it was awesome, but an ass kicker.
There’s also a cave there you can go see, but we didn’t have time for that one.

Thank you for the concern and call out, if not just me, anyone who reads that should... read that...

I get it. My first year in TX (2011) I went mnt biking at Knob hill. By this time, I had hundreds of miles logged in other states without issues. I found out what the Texas heat could do in a hurry. Thankfully I was able to get out, but I never rode alone there again.

I will careful when I go, my thought as this point is early and short trips just so I can map a plan for next time in the cooler months. After being there for 11 years and never going there, I just need to get it done. Especially now that I dont have someone asking me about the closest hotel and shopping center.

@RobertD and I just hit up knob hill for the first time last month! It’s a great ride, but I won’t do it in the summer :bananadead:

Palo Duro really is worth seeing, it’s beautiful and I’m sure you’ll have a great time scoping it out.

I miss that trail a lot! It was my measurement site. I started there and got consistently better at riding because of that trail, especially before they made it a one way trail. I then started riding other trails and would go back every now and then to see how my timing and stamina changed. It hold a special place in my heart and my wallet, since I taco'd two rims there lol.

I am beyond excited for Palo. It has a couple key things making me want to go there regardless of weather, one being I hear how beautiful it is. The second has to do with the whole "rebuild and rebrand yourself after a divorce" type thing.

Soon.... Portable AC and my 3L hydrapak included, soon I will be there!

@RobertD and I are definitely MTB novices, but I feel like we’re growing with each run. We both got our bikes (Marlin 6s) pretty much exactly a year ago and have gone out once every other month, since life gets in the way… Knob hill was fun, but we had to dip out and take a bypass about 3/4 through because we were dying

I’m with you on both of those things! Building my truck was my divorce present to myself. I learned a lot going through all that separation BS and it all helped me realize who I am as an individual and just how suppressed I was when I was married. I’m dating another divorcee currently and we have very similar mindsets, and let each other be our own human beings instead of repressing and suppressing to be a “we”.
I hope the worst of its behind you, and either way feel free to shoot me a PM if you need to chat/vent/whatever

Words cannot articulate how much that means. both in reading and in understanding. Thank you.

on a less emotional note.... LOL

Bro i get it... I started there on a stock bike from walmart. broke a rim and pride, then stripped it down to where nothing was left but the frame. Built an absolute beast of a bike and rode the piss out of it. Then one day i came up the drop off (shady area) and when i came down i blew the new DW rims out. So i fixed it and went about my business. my very first divorce present was a brand new bike when I moved down here and I have no regrets, other than I should have done it earlier lol.

I went into Knob the first time underprepared and unexpecting of the TX heat. I almost passed out and was able to walk out. I went on a forum and asked for help and then met a hell of a guy who I started riding with. Went all over, he preferred North Lake and I preferred River Legacy. Regardless of where we went, he gapped me all the time. But he taught me a lot over the years. Now I ride in mostly central Florida and love it. Going to try to do a paved trail trip a couple times while I am here and hope to be back on trail riding level by the time I head west for a few months. I am still recovering from the accident, so riding took a huge back seat.

Stay hydrated and have fun with it! post pics too, I miss riding out there and plan on hitting some trails when I am there in August. Probably river legacy again so I can bail out if it is to much LOL
