These athletes have a platform and a very important issue, are emphasizing our constitutional right that “all men are created equal”. Do you really think it would be a more effective message to strike and not play? Seems like their simple gestures added in yesterday’s game would be more effective in making people think/talk about race issues.

While I believe a lot in here is well intentioned, there is a lot of aspects to all of it that is being very twisted by untrue narratives(not saying your narratives personally) but narratives in media/pop culture. I wish we could have a civil discussion about it on here without getting 30 day vacations though :/

players should be as outspoken as they want....off the field, not during the game

here’s why. Sports are an entertainment business, not a public square. People want to watch a game to escape day to day life. I would like to watch a sports game and discuss it with a neighbor who i am politically opposite of, and just talk sports and not how politics have been woven into the sports

If you want to get rid of race quit talking about it. Quit making it a mandated selection on applications and even the US census. Quit stating first this race to do something, first that race to do that. It's called the human race. Racism is taught. Not born with. And every ethnicity has them.

    https://youtu.be/gFP4dJHJXoI

And they have a platform. It's called the media and social networking sites. Once on that field it should be about the sport and the sport only. Americans want something to escape to, not be constantly reminded of issues going on. Politics and sports don't mix. Look at the rating since politics has been entered. NBA and NFL are losing fans. Losing fans means no money. No money means no sport. Means no platform.

Then they need to just play. They are not paid to be political. Pick one. Athlete or politician.

    Yep^^
What's amazing is that millions of folks from all over the planet yearn to come here and do so every year and manage to prosper and have meaningful lives. Some can even afford NFL tickets. Ha! A few members should ask some of those immigrants what they think should be taking place down on the field at an NFL game after working hard all week...........prolly a football game

It is very easy to say “they just need to play” when you are not the one who is oppressed. For people to be this upset over a few moments in a game really seems to point out a bigger issue. I challenge everyone with this viewpoint to have a meaningful talk about race with at least one black person. I’m a 40-something white guy, and yes it is a little uncomfortable but very eye opening. Sometimes in life you need to look at things from another person’s perspective.

RIDICULOUS! Such a "touchy-feely" reply. I'm really surprised that this thread has continued as long as it has............very political.

Maybe my reading comprehension isn't what it should be, but from the "Code of Conduct" page: Any political discussion or images will result in a 30-day ban from the site.

What makes you think none of us had that "talk". Don't assume you know me or anyone else here. I myself lived overseas for over 7 years. I always adapted to the local culture. My kids are of MIXED race. Just because some of us want politics and sjw out of pro sports doesn't mean we have a "bigger issue". Get real

I watch sports to escape politics and all the crap happening in today’s world. If I did that at work I would get fired. I am done watching the NFL.

I haven't watched in years and don't miss it at all. An now this year I have given up on all professional sports. I am a huge baseball fan and thought I would miss the MLB. Have not watched or followed the MLB since opening day...don't miss it one bit. I have better things to do with my time.

Thats fine. For the last four years I have enjoyed this forum, often read and occasionally post. All of the negative posts in the NFL tread just started to get to me. Wanted to put something out there for people to try do something positive with the situation.

I'll probably listen to some games on the radio when I'm messing around in the garage or out and about. I miss college football a lot too. With Von Miller out is a problem. Big shoes to fill.

The USA is the most free, most equitable country to every exist in the history of the world. The fact that there are long lines of people from every single background And every country to move here. That isn’t political, it is just a fact that the usa is amazing. We should all be thankful for every day of freedom we have. The history of the world is not freedom. That doesn’t make our country perfect, but it is a heck of a lot better than anything that has come before it

I get your point and worthy to bring up. The problem I think is that lots of folks haven't been able to work and there hasn't been much sports on until now and want and need the outlet that sport fans need. The NFL in particular. A huge audience, although shrinking, and many loyal fans are ready for kick off. Many of us pretty are much done with things by the weekend and need a getaway for a few hours from the news, fires, turmoil, politics, etc. I simply just want to watch a football game for a few hours without being constantly reminded of what I'm already aware of:thumbsup:

No one is oppressed. Look how many successful black people there are. They do not walk around with a victimhood mentality. They know they have just as much chance as I do in life. The problem is the NFL is making it about race and oppression and division. How many will wear the name of the hundreds of white people killed by police this year? Why play two national anthems? I find it extremely disrespectful to law enforcement (and society) to allow these athletes to wear the names of criminals on the back of their helmets. It is even worse when the NFL would not allow the Cowboys to wear a small sticker honoring the 5 Dallas area officers who were murdered in one night during a BLM protest in 2016.
