Looks like those are the basic stache parts they slap on the stripped-down SR model. See below. Hard to tell from the pic on Toyota's website, but the base SR grill looks standard matte with a similar, semi-gloss black stache.

I think you've got it... the black is not primer, it is base model stock finish. So they offer mustache pieces in black and chrome...
ps... the SR is not an attractive grille... I like the honeycomb on the TRD

I had the option to take delivery of the SR5 version of the same truck I got in Limited a few months prior to my Limited being built, but decided to hold out for the Limited and fix the chrome instead. The cost difference was only ~$1000 and I think you get quite a bit more value than that in the extra features.

    Loaded DC SR5 OR - $55,532
Loaded DC Limited OR - $56,558

Limited Offroad has a few upgrades not available on the SR5 Offroad:
    - Cooled Seats
    - 12 speaker JBL instead of 6 speaker stock stereo
    - Power package with wireless charging, bed outlet, and back seat outlets (This was a must have for me as I used the bed outlet in my Tacoma quite a bit)
    - Tailgate release button in taillight
    - Black 20" wheels vs 18" gunmetal/chrome (Would have preferred 18s, but like the all black style a lot more than the gunmetal with chrome accents)

It was cheaper/easier to color match the chrome than add the above myself so I held out for the Limited

I love the chrome mustache! Why? Because the few of us that wrap/paint it makes our trucks stand out and look bad ass!!
