Ford or gm should do a commercial where a new tundra is driving along when it comes across a log or downed tree in the road, then has to turn around and go back. Then a chevy or ford comes along and hooks the log to their tow hooks and drags it out of the way, then proceeds to its destination.

Good point. Especially if your pregnant wife's water broke and you need to get to the hospital. I'm really liking this tow hook thread.

Nobody needs tow hooks until you do. I have never used the sunvisor extender on our trucks so I guess it never should have been installed. I only ever use 5' of the bed so I see no reason for that extra 6inches. Aftermarket tow hooks will arrive but when you have factory tow hooks it means the engineers put effort and testing to make sure the truck could be pulled out at that point. When Amazon China sells you the cool looking tow hooks with neon colors and little flames on them you again will be the stud of the parking lot but when the instructions tell you to drywall screw them into the plastic bumper then enjoy the finger pointing. Toyota obviously doesn't believe in the strength of this truck or tow hooks would have been installed. Everything about this truck screams "slow down for speed bumps" and the tow hook fiasco is just one more item that says were now only competing with the Miss Honda Ridgeline.

I'm thinking of removing one tow hook. Only need one and payload hits 1295! Painting it florescent green to be able to easily locate it in the dark when SHTF. Conundrum solved!

I am out west. We deal with plenty of snow, ice, and gumbo in some areas. I’ve had to chain up before to get out of a river bottom when the frozen gumbo thawed while I was hunting ducks.

    Couple of things.....

    1. The first person that can effectively design and manufacture tow hooks for this 3rd gen might be a millionaire by March.

    2. No tow hooks in the 3rd gen drives up the value of the 2.5 gens by about $10-15k.

    3. Has anybody sent a link of this thread to Toyota Customer Service/Corporate?

What if I back down a 1 lane muddy road and get stuck and the only help that comes is in front of me!?! Who would want to be in that situation? I'll keep my 2017 with TWO front tow hooks.

I have enjoyed following the thread.

But I have to ask. I keep reading that Toyota has said that tow hooks will be an accessory that can be purchased. I can not find anywhere , where Toyota said such. If they indeed did can someone point me to it.

If they offer them as accessories does that mean they have been tested etc.

Lastly, I have seen a few pictures / videos of the underneath of the front bumper. I cant see anyplace that a tow hook could be installed.

My exact question. Saw two different articles where Toyota stated they could be purchased as accessories but they don't offer them on their website truck build. Does anyone know if there is a place to put them. Seems like the first week release media crap all the Toyota people are just told to say Yes, its coming. "Can I get an expresso maker and 80" display". Yes, it's coming.
