Ok, unrelated to the install, but since so many of us have installed this HU, I figured it was a good thread to ask.
Is the transmission temp gauge on the Alpine accurate enough to use for a drain and fill vs the usual means?

I also have a scan gauge2 you can use if you want. I’ll help if you need; I’ll help make sure the beer is cold…..

Thanks, and as you know, there is always cold beer. My thinking is that either a scan gauge, the old OBD jumper trick, or the Alpine HU are all relying on the same sensor in the trans, so it should work.

It gets the information from the truck it’s just able to read it. I used it for my trans fluid swap because my scan gauge was being a bitch

    That's what I was thinking.

I had a drain and fill done fairly recently, so I figured I'd just do another one. I'm planning ahead for my yearly Black Friday order when I buy all my maintenance stuff from Toyota. Filters, ATF, coolant, etc.

I’m kinda of a tard but I think the readable sensors are called PID’s and these units just sync to those and display what they are sensing.

I’m a fan of amsoil, I know Tom is too. It’s not a ton cheaper but I kinda trust it more. Look for the atf with the blue top and “fuel efficient” on the bottle.

The tranny sensor reads high on my Alpine. It starts at around 150 Fahrenheit right at startup when parked overnight. Where does your temp reading start up at?

It's within a few degrees of what my garage is. Currently in the 80s.

Did you have to do calibrations/PID modifications? I have been messing with my Alpine but it reads at the 150F temp.
