Anyone found a aftermarket replacement for this?

I have a 23 platinum 8 months old (not even 5k miles) and both passenger and driver broke entirely off at the hook part.

The new Toyota part is a little different than the older ones that probably is a quarter year change, it seems to be more durable. I had ordered one and the local dealer said they would replace it under warranty. I did not have all day to sit at the dealership so I paid the 100 bucks and put it in like in an hour. The hardest part is removing the front clip and that takes some time but I have the plastic removal tools to do it with.

Overall not bad at all, if it happens again I will probably let the dealership warranty it next time.

I have the same crack after 10 months and 9,000 miles. I just spoke to my dealer who said it should be covered under warranty. I'll find out tomorrow. I expect them to come up with a fix for it, not just replacing the panel so it cracks again.

Mine Cracked after eight months. I took it to the dealer. Service guy looked at it, took a picture. He got back to me in a few days and told me he was able to have Toyota cover it, and ordered the part. Naturally it is backordered nationally.

Toyota P/N 718120C241C0, it does crack when you slide out of the truck instead of pulling yourself up and out with the oh crap handle and the side steps

Mine has broken as well after 11k on my 22. It broke where the front part attaches to the seat. Hopefully it will be covered under warranty.

My dealer states there are currently over 200 on back order and should be covered under warranty. Also looks like the part number has superseded so this might be an indication of an updated part.

Mine was replaced at 8500 and now at 26000 it is doing it again. Not sure if chasing it back with the same crappy part is the answer.

It's possible the first time it was replaced with the same part. 3rd time might be better. I'd reinforce that with your dealership when you bring it in.

The thing is the second one felt like it was heavier duty. An aftermarket aluminum one might be the answer……..I will see next time I go in there

Does this forum have any authorized Toyota reps that monitor this forum to help out Toyota tundra customers? Just curious as the Ram forum I belonged to before selling it had a company rep monitor the forum to address and facilitate issues of quality control.

Dealer is at best a roulette wheel. And if I try to show them that owners all over the continent and of all shapes and sizes are having this issues - they just roll their eyes like how dare I suggest that mighty Toyota might have a quality problem.

Note: Also had this experience with a RAV4 which we sold, ironically, just received a recall for it 2.5 years after I battled with the dealer over the exact issue.

Last 5 trucks I have owned (covering all 3 domestic brands) had dealers that at least paid some attention and tried to help - this is insane. Definitely a factor in next purchase.

Just had my truck at dealer today for the fuel gauge TSB and asked again about the seat panel cracked. They are willing to do it this time seeing that it got worse since the last time I was at dealer back in September 2022. Dealer contacted Toyota if the side panel will be covered under warranty, Toyota is aware of the issue and has many cases of the panel cracking according to my service advisor. Toyota is willing to replace it 1 time as a goodwill. My dealer ordered the part but was told over 2500 parts backordered, so it's going to be awhile. They'll call me when the parts come in.

My receipt said the same thing after they replaced my cracked panel, "1 Time Goodwill." I am wondering if the dealers are instructed to put this verbiage in the paperwork so they can deny that there is an issue if people return for a second replacement.

Just the sheer number of these that fail, and the ridiculous number of persons waiting for a backordered item, prove that this is an inherent design flaw, and should not be treated as a "1 time goodwill gesture." Sad on Toyota's part, very sad.

That's the thing, no one said a word. I got my keys back, drove home, went to file away the repair receipt and that's when I noticed the wording.

Agree since this wasn't a problem in prior Tundra's ...there has to be a design flaw putting pressure on the panel now that wasn't in other gen's.

My experience with 1-800 Toyo is it rings in Nigeria or West Africa. Everyone I dealt with on one issue I had was West African. If they outsourced it responding to forums not part of the contract. So unless engineering is doing their over and above due diligence

My dealership said they will replace the part one time, but it will just break again after a couple weeks......so I don't know if I should wait or have it "fixed".

My old '08 had a crappy side panel that I ended up replacing 3 times before I just said screw it. That and power lock actuators that never worked for more than 6 months. I love Toyota's, but they've had their issues with stupid little parts. Fortunately with my 3 different Toyota trucks driven for a combined 400k+, the only problems I have had were the two aforementioned items and a AC blower on my '20 Tacoma. Everything else has been solid.

I'll go ahead and add my addition. At first I thought it was some sort of mark or a dog hair, but nope. Definitely the start of a crack.

My 2022 1794 edition has had this happen twice. This is absolutely ridiculous, 25 cents of additional plastic would like have saved me over $200 at this point.

Anyone have the part number for the manual adjustment side panel (driver side)? Happened to me the other day.
