Got my third panel put on today. The part was paid for due to having paid for a previous replacement still being under the part's warranty, installation $100. Had dealership install it because it was in the shop for the temporary fuel line recall and brake ECU campaign.
The part for the seat panel according to the parts department has the same number as the previous ones.

The same part number may not mean anything. It could be a new revision level. By keeping the same part number all the existing part list manuals remain the same.

Hi, talked with the LaGrange Toyota parts department and they told me that the part remains unchanged and the replacement would have a new number. This makes sense to me, otherwise it would be impossible to tell the revised part from the older ones. I just hope a fix comes soon.

Not nessarily so, part numbers as well as revision levels can be put on the backside of this part. I've been in manufacturing for 40 years that's how our industry does it by changing rev level unless the part is so significantly different from the previous one that's when a new part number is warranted. I guess we will know for sure once a new part is available.

So mine was replaced today, my service advisor laughed out loud when I asked if the new one is a redesigned part. He said he has seen the newer ones break just the same. I like my service advisor, he is transparent on shit. Mine had a crack in it but he said some are destroyed and usually it is weight issue ;).

Had mine replaced today with an “updated reinforced panel” , one time goodwill replacement per the invoice. IMG_2324.jpg

Good to hear they replaced it free of charge. Only time will tell if that is really good will or not.

So is 711791 the new part number? If it is what is the old part number. Sorry without seeing the physical diferences between these two parts I am not going to believe it has been "upgraded".

Glad they replaced it for free, but I’m a little unsure why they needed to emphasize this was a one time goodwill repair. This should really be covered as part of their standard 36k bumper to bumper warranty right? Seems disingenuous to suggest it is “wear and tear” or abuse with how widespread the issue has been.

So now I am a victim of the cracking seat trim piece. I had a thought and wanted to get everyone’s take on my idea. If we could find a member or a vendor that could make thin metal plates with the really strong 3m adhesive tape that would fit it this area, it might reinforce the plastic. The plates could be colored or engraved with “TOYOTA” “TRD”.
Kind of like the no soliciting signs people stick on their front doors. Thoughts?

I guess I would prefer that the manufacturer would replace the part with one that won't fail.

I believe that plastic would be a better way to reinforce it. maybe just cut a piece of 1/16" or 1/8" ABS to fit the back side and glue it on.

Totally agree but sadly often times it’s up to the aftermarket community to solve the problem.

The replacement panel seems much thicker made. The original that cracked was easily malleable/bendable, but the replacement is much stiffer and has held up well.

Reading about all the cracks is only reason I left the step boards on. That and tell myself they protect rocker panels from debris.

I had mine replaced with the new and improved version a couple months ago. It has cracked as well.

Anyone have any luck getting dealer to fix the seat trim panel under warranty?

Dang…as soon as I post how well the updated panel seems to be built, I notice mine is cracked. The updated one, but not cracked as severely as the original was. Dealer Service Mgr has been good about making issues right.

Made an appointment to have mine looked on Friday. It's not broken off yet but it's growing a bit each week and pops when getting in and out.

Had mine replaced when at the dealer a few weeks ago. Luckily the service advisor was familiar with the issue as he has a Tundra and his piece had recently broke...lol

Was able to swap it out without any hassle at all.

Hopefully by now many of the dealerships know about these defective parts...

I am seriously considering getting an extended warranty, yes on a freaking Toyota. Never in my life would I have thought I needed one on a toyota but my 2022 Tundra is having a few issues. My question: will a cracked seat be covered on the Toyota extended warranty? Thank you.

The oem platinum warranty is bumper to bumper minus wear items like brakes , plugs at 40k etc, so yes that’s covered

Dealer replaced just the broken side for me (25,000 miles). I asked in the future if the other one breaks if they’d replace and he told me yes they would no question.

I’m think this is due to the fact that the old part is obviously defective as the new part is a different design…

Hopefully most dealers would see it this way?

I pulled the trigger on an extended warranty, the Jerry told me crack seats are not covered on the EW. I will fight that fight down the road when it fails again. 8 year, 75K 900 bucks plus 3% for using CC.

‘i know it is cover under the 3yr/36000 when new. Are you saying it covered under a Toyota extended warranty? That would be great, hell, should have the 10 year. TY
