Sure, with enough money nothing is impossible. As you read I paid $9,000 for my truck stock and I now have over twice that ($18K) in parts alone.

I seriously could consider doing another one someday. The problem is only younger guys with no family or older retired guys buy single cabs as a primary truck. Its is really a small market share and a big reason Toyota quit producing these.

This kind of stuff is for people with a little extra spending cash that want a fun weekend truck or something. If I made another one I would have to get $30k plus for it when I sold and just not a lot of people willing to spend that kind of money on an extra truck in my opinion.

Due to limited production of single cab short bed trucks it is also not easy to find a great starting platform. Cutting a 2014+ long bed down to a short bed could be much easier. The new interior and front end is already done by Toyota. I would want to add the center console/shifter however.

Check the build link in my signature.
On the Gen 2, the wiring harness for the servos is available separately - I haven’t looked into Gen3 but I’m betting it is the same harness. There is one harness for the non-auto trucks and one for the auto-AC trucks with different part numbers. Each connector has its own PCB built into it for each servo. And you can’t just use the wire harness, it has to be plugged into that extra servo.

Servo itself on the Gen 2 auto-AC trucks is an auto-blend for defrost and upper vents if i remember correctly. When in auto mode, it redirects some air differently that just the standard defrost, but I can’t remember exactly the difference. The servo itself was located high on the passenger side of the housing. I never even tried to install a blend door inside - just attached the servo to the outside and plugged in the harness. It would move, but wasn’t doing anything.

you can get to all of it by only removing the lower dash/glove box areas and the stereo. You do need the thermister, Venturi tube, and so that jazz as well. And I’d recommend adding the solar sensor and auto-on headlights while your in there!

Yea makes perfect sense. The PCB pickup the CAN signals and also send back the position of the servo it is plugged into. If one PCB or servo is missing the AC amp knows and will reset/have an error code.

I will defiantly be upgrading to the digital panel soon.

Dope! Makes me want to get a 2014+ 4x4 regular cab, chop it, and put a short bed on.

Thank you for this! I definitely developed a motivated attitude as I was growing up. It helped push me to a very solid education and successful career. This "fun" truck is one of the first big rewards to my adult self.

I just created the actual build thread yesterday evening after work. I actually stumbled across your profile a few weeks ago on here. Your RCSB is very sharp as well.

I currently live in a neighborhood in Bryan/College Station. After several years at Texas A&M I never left.

Not sure if this is what you were saying but I read that you think the 3rd gen AC controls are single zone only?
I am sure that the one you bought is that way but there are sure 3rd gen 2 zone AC controls too and maybe that is what you really need to make that work correctly?

    Amazing tenacity here too!

Oh come on we just need to cut out like 1.5-2 feet from this area in red ...... But seriously, cool truck. Still sad Toyota cut the regular cab completely. Would have loved for it to stay around even if it was only a long bed option.

I searched a long time to find a newer RCLB and went on an adventure to collect it too!

Plus I would need a shorter shell and bedslide and tools too!?

I imagine I love my Long Bed as much as you guys love your Shorties?!

So you're done and bored with the truck already..... I guess I could offer you $27k for it :spending:
Great Job!! I actually priced the TRD Pro 6'5" bedsides and they're $1,500 each, but no telling how long to actually get them from Toyota. P/N's 656000C170 and 655000C170.

To each their own right? I once had a guy tell me his dad thought short bed truck were worthless because a standard 8x4 ft sheet of plywood could not lay flat in the bed with the tailgate closed. For this reason alone the guy would only buy long beds. Of course plywood prices are so high it doesn't matter anymore. A regular cab long bed would be a great work truck, as you point out.

I found the bedsides and the P/N explicitly said they had the "TRD Pro Stamp" When I looked they were like $850 each plus shipping. My good friend in the auto body world said you would probably always be able to tell the bedsides has been replaced if I went this route. I did look into it however before buying my bed.

Last week, a guy in the Facebook group from Florida told me he was going to buy the bedsides and swap them. I am looking forward to see how this turns out.

Another guy I know said when he tried to order the bedside the dealer said he had to provide a Pro Vin# to be able to get them. He gave them one but then they said something about they couldn't even be ordered after all. When I ordered the trim piece on the dash above the console I used the TRD Pro Vin# from the truck I got my seats out of. Nobody questioned me and they sent the parts.

Long story short others guys are talking about/looking at swapping the bedsides. I have yet to see it happen but it might in the future.

I had my eye on a black double cab TRD Pro in hopes of doing the swap that you did, but the asking price actually kept climbing every day until it finally sold. My goal was to just swap the body parts as you did and forget about the dash. That just seems too tuff for me, but after seeing your results I can confirm it would be too tuff for me. Your truck looks Fantastic!!

I laughed a little reading this. Thanks.

What part of the country was the TRD Pro for sale in? I assume it was wrecked or something? Do you remember what it sold for or have a picture or it?

I just ordered more connectors and wires to make more plug and play in line harnesses for the cluster and AC controls. I think a few guys are going to buy them and give it a shot. Its the little stuff like the illumination lights and buttons on the dash that will burn you up.

EDIT: This is the TRD Pro my bed came off of, It would have been a good one to buy whole but by the time I found it, it had been parted out. The bed as all that was left.

Genius young man, genius! Here’s a suggestion for your personal license plate, It comes from the old Johnny Cash song “I got it one piece at a time and it didn’t cost me a dime”, 1PCATIM. Although that last part of the song you can keep trying to convince yourself.
