I used white, but I was having it painted Windchill Pearl so it wasn’t a massive color change. Not sure if it matters a whole lot in the end, but I’m curious to hear what you find out.

    Welcome to the forum.

The first year of the TRD Pro they didn't have MGM (magnetic grey metallic) I had to have my MGM painted back in the day.
I'm pretty sure I ordered a black surround but an OEM MGM hood bulge.
Had a local shop paint it for me.

I had to remove and reinstall the grille into the surround, the clips are pretty fragile but it can be done.
It's easier to have 2 people, one to pull the surround and grille apart, and one to release the clips with a small screwdriver.
I also pulled my TOYOTA letters off and had them painted as well.
Stuck them back on with 3M molding tape.

@War Machine I asked a local body shop and they said base color does not matter. I will call some other shops around and see if anyone has a differing opinion.

I have a 2018 with the old pro grille, radar cruise works fine. Works just as good as my stock 2021 work Tundra. AJT bracket I assume is thick, it's almost 2 years old now.

Has anyone had any luck with a non Toyota OEM garnish with the 2019+ grill? I have a 20 and have to have the TSS but dang that is a hard pill to swallow for that oem garnish.
    Thanks,

It's a hit and miss. Most end up buying the OEM garnish in the end. When they find a knockoff that appears to work, at some point it starts causing issues. Buy once and be done with it.

Is it possible to keep my current sr5 grill and replace just the bottom chromed grill surrounding? Tried looking on sparks and didn’t see an option without upgrading the entire grill and bottom piece. Looking for an MGM for a 2020 if that helps! TIA

It's possible to separate the middle insert from that bottom piece but requires a small bit of finesse to remove each clip holding them together plus there are a couple that you have to cut a tiny bit of plastic off. It's not hard at all.
Alternatively, you can take your grille in to have that bottom piece professionally painted.
Are you by chance located in So Cal?

I have a spare sport grille that I've been experimenting on and I ended up painting that bottom chrome piece MGM. It's not the best paint job and I don't know how it'll look up on the truck but if I were to actually use it, I'd take it in to get painted.

Painting the chrome usually does not work, and most shops will not waste the time doing it.

Yeah I watched a few how to videos on painting chrome and just doesn't seem worth it. This piece that I painted myself is pretty bad but maybe one day I'll give it another go at it n see if it comes out better.

I have a 2020 Tundra SX package. I just updated my grill and it looks awesome. I got my grill from https://highcountryoffroad.com/. And everything came with and looked on YouTubefor directions.

Order it through your dealer and pick it up when it arrives. No shipping charges that way.

Might have too, Even though I hate paying the dealer. Shipping today is $1940!! Not sure what's going on at Sparks Parts but that's beyond stupid.

You are paying a dealer for the part regardless. Some dealers will price match other dealer site prices like Sparks. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Go to the Fred Anderson web site and order one this week while they have a sale. 20% off plus free shipping. Yes they will ship it for free. I ordered mine during the Memorial Day sale along with my hood bulge and new headlights.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong... just tried to order the hood bulge and the platinum grille thru Fred Anderson, with the July 4 promo and free shipping. Problem is, I get an error saying "According to the dimensions entered, your package is too large to be mailed" and I can only pick it up from Fred Anderson. I tried it with the pro grille and got the same error. Turns out, the hood bulge alone is what's giving me that error. I can order any grille and have it shipped, no problem, but once I add the hood bulge, they wont ship.

I tried my local dealership and they come to about $250 more than Fred Anderson. Yikes. Perhaps I can see if they'll price match. Or...road trip...

    That makes no sense.
The hood bugle is substantially smaller than the grille.

I tried it and it gave me the same thing.

I have a contact info for a guy that helped me out with part numbers and such during the last sale on Memorial Day. I’ll reach out to him and see what he says… maybe they changed their policy???

Yeah, even if I just try to purchase the hood bulge alone, I get that error. You'll ship a substantially larger part (grille) to me, but not a much smaller part? Really strange.

For under $500 for the platinum grille/bulge and under $800 for the pro grille/sensor garnish/bulge, I've yet to find it as cheap anywhere else.

You’re not going to! That’s why I jumped all over it last month. I had been looking and debating the purchase for 8 months.

Fred Anderson is aware and also aware of the frustration that it is causing members of the forum. They are working on a remedy. Not sure if it happens before the sale ends, but they have a sale every few months.

I'm willing to just order the grille and sensor garnish from Fred to get the deal, and shop around elsewhere for the hood bulge that will ship it to me. Sparks comes to $2 more for the part plus $31 to ship. I can stomach an extra $33 and I don't necessarily need it all to arrive at the same time.

EDIT: And that's what I have begun doing. I ordered a pro grille, garnish, and two spring nuts (per Roman's old post, it says it's necessary) for $567.81. I separately reached out to their parts department to see if there's anything we can do about the hood bulge. If not, I'll have to order it elsewhere.

Turns out, it's not $33 dollars extra if I'm forced to go through Sparks for the hood bulge. I forgot that Sparks doesn't have the 20% discount, so it's more like $80 more. :( Is there another dealership that still has the 20% discount today? I'll still see what the people at Fred Anderson says. But with 20% off and free shipping, I should only pay $202 for the hood bulge. We'll see.

Very much thanks!!! Had no trouble ordering the hood bulge for $205 thru your dealership. Hopefully, both shipments arrive in similar timing...but happy to get a pro grille, sensor garnish, and bulge for $772.

Have you received shipment notification on your order?

Toyota of Decatur cancelled my order I placed on July 11, saying they have been having issues with shipments being damaged in-transit.

Well, I should have had two shipments...I had the sensor garnish and pro grille coming from Fred Anderson, and the hood bulge coming from Serra Toyota of Decatur. The sensor garnish arrived after about 4 days and I didn't get any shipment notification, so I had no idea it was coming. I did get a shipment notification from Fred Anderson for the grille and that's due to arrive tomorrow.

The only thing I've gotten from Serra Toyota of Decatur (other than order confirmation), is a "How did we do with your order?" feedback request email. I checked the status of the order from my account, and it still says it's processing. I was going to give them a little more time and then inquire because I expect it could take some time to process. But no, I haven't gotten any order cancellations yet, so I guess we'll see what happens.

I also never heard back from Fred Anderson when I inquired about why the hood bulge couldn't be shipped...more just curiousity at this point, unless Decatur cancels my order.

I may install the super white pro-grille while I figure out the hood bulge, so I'll share some pics in case anyone wants to see a white pro-grille with a chrome hood bulge.;)
