It is the same with gas car owners, too.

People will always push their "tank"

The designers of this Truck must be blind. It's hideous! Besides Tesla isn't known for being most reliable either, what a bad combination.

Torque on electric vehicles are insane and I am sure even if we say no, we would enjoy driving it...
But fact is if you but a large pickup speed is not a reason for you... functionality, look, space, sitting height, comfort etc are more of the reason we but trucks.
The future is really driverless vehicles not necessarily battery vehicles.. but battery will be a high factory in this change.
When most of us are just memories, there will be a time when owning a vehicles is no longer a thing, vehicles will be convenience. Need one, call it up, it comes and get you and take you to your destination etc.

Already a lot of young persons are skipping learning to drive and opting for ride services. There will be people like me who love freedom to move at own convenience who will still choose to own our own. So don't get me wrong, not saying all vehicles will be call up only, but but I think a lot will be.

Probably somewhat true. Gas mall crawlers to electric mall crawlers.

One thing once again not being mentioned is the massive amount rare earth metals required for the manufacturing of hi tech batteries required for battery powered cars let alone a truck. FYI...China controls 99% of rare earth mining output even though the US has plenty of reserves. FYI...Google rare earth mine pollution in China...quite bad to say the least. A Tesla isn't even remotely a "green" car. LOL

Musk is in this venture because of the Gov't subsidies his company received and continues to receive. If those dry up, the doors will shut within a year. I wouldn't buy his stock to hold at half of current mkt value. Snake oil salesman.

Yep...same scenario with corn ethanol production. Without tax payer subsidies there would be zero corn ethanol going into someone's gas tank.

You make some very valid points. I am always amazed at the thought process of the younger generation nowadays. Back in my day as a teen or 20+ yo, knowing how to drive and getting your drivers license was primary. I don’t know if I am going to be onboard with self driving vehicles for a long time. I think the technology is 10 years away from being perfected. For now, I’ll drive myself around. :).

EVs are the way of the future. However, just live the self driving vehicles, the technology is in my opinion, roughly 5-10 years away from being perfected. EVs were and are being developed primarily for range and zero emissions. In the case of pickup trucks, they are going to need more than just quick bursts of speed to sell me on buying them. I bought my pickup truck for the utility that it provides. Everything else is just icing on the cake. I must admit that I am eager to see how this segment of the auto industry develops in the near future.

Driverless vehicles have been more than capable for over 25 years, just not accepted for public transportation because there are too many "unpredictable" human idiots on the road. We have seen insane advancements in the past 2 decades when it comes to EVs and AVs (autonomous vehicles). The more of them on the road, the less we will see of gas.

As the older generation of petroleum fuel slowly acknowledges the truth that they are a dying breed, the EV generation will ask their parents "what's a gas pedal for Daddy?" Just like I still listen to CDs and some wax from time to time, knowing I can hardly find them any more, even online. To now just streaming whatever, whenever, however, and not even remembering that I used to have to drive to the record store, hope they had it, then spend $15 bucks to buy the whole album for that 1 song. Then drive all the way home before getting to hear it... How exhausting!!!

Someday soon enough, we will unfortunately say this about our beloved gas powered beasts. Some of us all already complaining about not having keyless push button start. Imagine in 10 years when we say... " OMG, I actually have to use my hands to steer the truck!"

    It's coming.

Until then I will continue to enjoy driving my 6500# manual start, manual door opening, manual driving, supercharged, high-octane, low mpg, loud and nasty, petroleum powered beloved Truck as long and I know it will last!

    agreed.
The future never stops. Only thing that is constant is change.
But until then.....we will continue to drive what we drive.
    Have a great day

I'd much rather have the Rivian.. I'm not a big Tesla fan I think there junk. Plus it's fine to pull 100k plus pounds but I want it to see it stop it with 100k +lbs.
At 55-60mph it would take a mile to stop it
