I wouldn't buy anything from a company that I don't think will be around in the future.

I think all electric truck is the future. The Rivian looked nice at the auto show. Not crazy about the front end. Tesla one claim to be under 50k?

    Thought so.

Tesla just bought Maxwell Technologies for $218 million which if you read into it will revolutionize battery tech as we know it.

They have to manufacture cars in China to be on a level playing field when selling to the Chinese market. As the electric car companies based in China and employing Chinese get subsidies.

I think the idea of them saving the environment is just a marketing aspect. Elon is just trying to be the leader of the vehicles evolution to electric power. The environment is just an easy campaign slogan, in my opinion.

The actually source I quoted from was a article. And what does battery tech have to do with anything ha ha. There’s a reason Tesla has been trying to find someone to buy them in the last gear cause they have been hurting big time. But there slowly starting to climb back up now.

I would absolutely get one if the price was right. I'm not one of those bitter old people that hates technology and whines about TPMS. Who gives a shit if its electric if its better in every aspect?

My SR5 Off Road was $42k so if it can haul and go fast in that price range, I'm on board. I just want quicker recharges. I drive many state lines in a day and cant take 3 days to do what I do in 12 hours. I need the ability to drive 800 miles in a day, not a multi day endeavour.

I feel like the technology isn’t there yet to have a decent range and decent battery life. I have no doubt that technology will progress and electric vehicles will become more of a viable option but that will only increase the cost of electricity across the board offsetting what we all currently pay for petroleum products. I hear a lot about how electricity is “clean” but that’s a load of shit. Electricity and battery production produce just as much if not more pollution than burning fossil fuels. For me it’s all going to come down to what works, makes the most financial sense and ultimately is reliable and convenient. Right now that is gas and diesel. I am open to electric vehicles but it’s going to be awhile before the positives out-way the negatives.

This. If they can increase the range... these things will be epic.
Maybe they just need to make all of the body panels out of solar panels :rofl:probably would still take weeks to charge though.

It’s ugly as hell. It’s a crossed between an older generation Ford F-150 and the former Lincoln Fleetwood. It’s not as spaced age looking like other Teslas. If that’s the actual final rendering, I hope that it performs much better than I looks.

Tesla will soon downgrade software on the entry-level Model 3

    Tesla's email reads:

"Your Model 3 will soon receive new software that matches the Model 3 Standard Range configuration you ordered. As we communicated in April, this includes a limited range of 220 miles, and the removal of several software features. To continue experiencing the extended range, faster acceleration and Autopilot features of Model Standard Range Plus, schedule a service appointment through your Tesla app."

    ********************************
Like I said before, Tesla just isn’t there as yet. Until they are able to perfect their core product of current vehicles, they should stay away from the pickup truck segment!!!

Plus, I have a MAJOR PROBLEM WITH BIG BROTHER HAVING REMOTE ACCESS TO ALL THE FUNCTIONS OF MY VEHICLE AND OTHER INFORMATION!!! That’s a perfect way for anyone to spy on consumers and innocent people. Before you know it, Uncle Sam will be using it for their own benefit. As well as, other people and organizations gaining access to people’s personal shit!!! Hell no!!!

The software is where they make their money. Tesla charges a fee for updates and upgrades of their software. As their email stated, they charge customers for it. That’s part of their leverage to get more money from each vehicle they sell.

Plus, due to the on going situations with their vehicles, they are only able to fix certain some of those things via manipulation of their vehicles’ software. Their electric vehicles are mechanically stable with the exception of the batteries and software. There is only so much that they can do to any electrical system. That leaves all the pressure on their batteries and software.

It's like so many of the IT world, Microsoft, Cisco (Smartnet), they make their money not on the product but the licensing, you don't really own the stuff, you just leasing it as long as your subscription is up to date.

I like it. I'm not sure if I will buy one anytime soon, but I love the innovation it will drive the other manufacturers to do. The performance that electric is able to give you is phenomenal. It could also potentially save me hundreds of dollars a month in gasoline depending on how I charge it. I am probably more likely to buy a hybrid Tundra if they come out with one like is rumored, but would seriously give a full electric a look.

True. However, I can never accept that type of practice with my vehicle ownership. Nor will I accept it. There are some things that are pure American and some things that aren’t. Is the American dream and way to own your own home and car outright. It’s un-American or, for the lack of a better word, it’s uncustomary here in America for one to have partial ownership of his/her vehicle once it has been fully paid for.

That’s a scary thought to have about property ownership rights. Either you do or you don’t. Tesla’s philosophy is that they must have full control of their products at all times. So, they sell you the vehicle, but they have the full rights to the vehicles’ software (brains). They have already made their vehicle capable of driving themselves. So, hypothetically, Tesla can take control of your vehicle without your permission or knowledge. They can move it and do whatever they want to with it. That just sounds very scary to me.

John Deere is doing similar with their tractors. Prevents the farmers from working on them on their own, or having an independent mechanic work on them. Must take them to the dealership.

Just a quick thread resurrection with this photo of a diesel van towing a gasoline powered generator charging an electric vehicle with a dead battery.
