I know its a render but seriously, how long is that bed supposed to be? It looks like you would have a hard time fitting a small kids swimming pool back there

When I can get 500+ km to a charge at -40 Celsius, a recharge time of 10 to 15min max at any current gas station location and can buy the truck for $45K CAD or less I'll be on board. Until then, electric vehicles are not practical for me or most people living north of Vancouver BC.

I would consider getting an electric car for stop-and-go city use and shorter commutes; for such a driving cycle it would make a lot of sense. I have no desire to buy an electric truck that I use to haul, tow, and go off-road with. Tesla can keep their 300 mile battery that costs $30,000, loses half of its capacity when cold, and takes hours to fully charge.

I'd buy an electric pickup if it had enough range.

Have you done any research about how badly Tesla is doing and in debit they are. Just type it into google and read how much trouble they have been in the past year. The reason Tesla has been trying to sell themselves to a bigger buyer.

This has probably been pointed out, but I bet loading that thing down with cargo or a trailer cuts range down to a fraction of what it is un-loaded.

I'm actually holding out on buying another Tundra based on the release of the Tesla truck.

If you've never ridden in a P100d you don't know what you're missing. This Tesla truck will do EVERYTHING a Tundra will do, and more, and for less money. With a $50k price tag and about 1000x more technology and capability than a Tundra, it's a no brainer.

That's interesting. We have multiple Teslas in our fleet and have not experienced any issues with build quality. To the contrary, it seems to be top-notch. Mechanically the cars are sound and seem to be engineered and manufactured extremely well. Interiors are elegant and sporty all at the same time. Technology included is far and above anything else I have experienced..

I think the reliability reports, in large part, are due to small components failing. That's the problem when you get a car where every little detail is a technological advancement, lots of stuff can break and go wrong.

Are you sure this article is not referring to THIS Tesla truck instead of the pickup?

What about photovoltaic paint and a deployable solar panel? There are realistic ways that you could potentially increase the range of an electric car...

Where I live we have a company called Wave, that used to be our neighbor before we bought a new building. Wave puts a wireless inductive charging system in buses, and the buses get a charge as sit near the wireless charging stations at stop lights around the University of Utah campus. This kind of tech could be deployed throughout cities and would provide additional range for EV vehicles that are capable of receiving a wireless charge.

I loved my Tundra, but the idea that it's the alpha and omega of pickup trucks is crazy. It's a good, reliable, basic truck.

The images you guys are posting are an artist's rendition, and not officially sponsored or promoted by Tesla at all. It might not look anything like these pictures.

Unfortunately, you cannot drive a Tesla while it is being charged. The vehicle is programmed to be inoperable during charging. I’m sure that they are thinking of ways to recharge the battery while driving, but they aren’t there as yet.

The idea of a battery operated pickup truck sound really good. But, I would never want to be in one right now because Tesla has not fully conquered the issues of battery overheating, range in excess of 500k, and battery discharge problems.

When a manufacturer posts range and charge time specs, are they factoring environmental variables that I will encounter? I need reliability through dramatic temperature shifts.

Another issue I take with the EVs are the increased subsidies offered to manufacturers. Are they really economically viable or just being made to appear so?

Yup, something like that. Tesla’s philosophy is that you never fully own your Tesla vehicles. They can and do log into your Tesla’s anytime they want to. They can control anything in their vehicles. They can extend the range of their vehicles or modify how fast or slow it can actually go. Whenever you buy a Tesla directly from them, you actually sign that you give them the right to access your car’s computer remotely to so call “update its software”
