I just got mines 08 dc 4x4 5.7. I baby it as much as I can and constantly get 14.5-15mpg hand calculated. Stock tires and no lift. I dont plan on a lift or larger tires but have 2" spacers I may install if the weather holds. I cant imagine getting 9mpg. I feel any vehicle that cant get 300 miles before gas light turns on is pathetic. Mines comes on at 280miles. I hope a full tune up in spring would help a bit.

Not sure how some of the guys here get 18-20mpg

I believe 14 mpg is the combined average 5.7L owners get from unaltered Tundra trucks.

I did get 18.5-19 mpg when I drove it on the freeway/cruise control, the day I bought it and drove home. I was hoping to average 16 mixed. Not complaining just providing input. Still waiting for that magical snakeoil to get 20mpg.. Just a note my friend on a 5.0 f150. averaged 18mpg on freeway with 2 sportbikes (800lbs) on back. with 33" mud tires and 2" lift. I could not believe it.

Just got an SR5 4x4 Tundra, maybe I need to do some more research on this...but is the average MPG's stated on the dash for the life of the vehicle? Whenever I reset the trip it just stays at 15.2(or whatever the avg. mpg's are). I only have 500 miles on the truck btw. Thanks for any info!

I calculate buy gallons put in after refill. Davide the total miles by gallons filled. It was very close to what the dash reads. I reset the dash also.

I use the gas tracker “Fuelly” app. Log every fuelup and service, and it tracks it all. My truck showed 10.2 avg on the dash when I bought it.... by the time I got home after the 70 mile trip, it showed 13.6mpg avg.... obviously a Completely different driving style between myself and the P.O... I now show upper 14’s on the dash, and 14.6 on my Fuelly log, after about 600 miles of ownership.....
    hope that helps..

Buy a Corolla S and drive that 90% of the time. You can make the car payment and drive it like a batt out of hell and still save money vs driving the Tundra everywhere.

Interesting read, here. I bought my Tundra new in 2007. I pulled a 5500 lb boat for the first 5 years. Not a lot but enough, and twice a year I pulled it on a 500 mile trip. My on-board computer said I was averaging about 16.8 miles. Over the last two or three years, it has dropped to 14.5 and I don't pull anything. :/ Sure wish I could get back to the 17 I was getting before...

As has been referenced in similar threads, tire size/lifts will typically knock down the mpg. However, when you consider that larger tires travel farther than stock (per rotation), unless you've had your ecu reset, your mileage shown on the display is less than you actually traveled.;)
There are calculators on this forum and online to determine your actual mileage. In that the average mpg on the display uses the 'slightly off' mileage, it might not be as bad as is being displayed.
As others have referenced, calculations by-hand are the best.

Another real solution that can always provide some help, is regularly cleaning your MAS.
A dirty sensor may incorrectly read the air volume coming through, causing your air/fuel ratio to be ever-so-slightly off.

Personally, I clean my MAS with every air filter cleaning/oil change. Although a little extra work, it takes less than 5 min.
Simply unplug the MAS harness (leave the actual MAS attached to the intake tube), disassemble the intake tube and clean it with CRC MAS Cleaner spray. Typically 10-15 secs of spray, let it dry (about 30 sec.) and repeat. If it's never been cleaned or it's been a while, you may need/want to repeat a time or two more. ALWAYS spray in the direction of air-flow!
I always seem to 'regain' 2-4 mpgs on my average after cleaning the MAS.

While you're at it and have the intake tube off, inspect your intake throttle valve for build up. Especially at the pivoting bar and the edges of the valve. Carefully wipe down as needed with lint-free cloth and CRC Throttle body cleaner. As with any preventive maintenance, if you keep it clean as you go, it will save you time down the road.

Huge lift, huge tires. You expect a low mileage. Is this figure mixed mpg or highway mpg?

If you have not adjusted your speedometer, the mpg should be multiplied by the ratio of the diameter of your tires to the stock diameter (since circumference is proportional to the diameter). So your actual mpg will be
    9.8x(35/32)=10.7.
Unless this is highway mpg, it doesn't look that bad.

My Tundra is mainly for pulling our 34-foot camper (7,800) pounds during the summer and I do drive her to work in the winter when a Colorado snow/ice storms blows in. (So I only put about 5,000 miles a year on her.) Pulling the camper she's only getting 10-11 mpg and without it's around 15. I change the air filter yearly in all my vehicles (3) and also add some Lucas fuel injector cleaner in the gas every few months which seems to help with mileage. My car to get to work is a Scion (Toyota) iQ which gets around 45 mpg (40 if I don't change the air filter yearly). But I wish I would've picked up a Prius...my wife's new Prius got 65 mpg on her last fill up...she's killing me, Smalls! (And she won't trade for my iQ...she calls it a pumpkin...she's mean I tell you!)

Yeah I expected the mpgs to go down. Thanks for the conversion and yes this a combined. I drive around 60 miles per day.

My 07 gets 16-18 regularly. If you have a tune up and clean your maf and filter regularly it can be done. It’s also based on movement and what kind of driving you do. If you’re sitting idle in a driveway or spot for 5 minutes it can really cut it down. I went in with the tundra knowing that it’s a 5.7 with close to 400hp. I’m not expecting prius like mileage here haha but will say the truck gets better mpg’s than my Subaru Tribeca.

Get this: I hit 20 mpg highway.
California on the I5, Northbound. O wind, 100 degrees F. Cruise control set at 70, but following an 18 wheeler going 62- 63mph.
Radar was keeping a safe distance, so probably not much drafting.

I have a 2013 4.6 4x4. I have a 3 inch lift. I tried premium when I first got it and got worse mpg??? But I have gotten 290 or more when it was warmer out. I think it might just be the winter?? Anyone? Then regular got me 20 more gallons. I get about 265 miles to a tank if in lucky and it's getting on my nerves.
