    All this explains something I observed on my old '86 4Runner: The power steering reservoir top/dipstick was embossed with "Toyoda". WTH? I never understood if it was a misspelling, a phonetic spelling, botched translation, or what. Thanks @texasrho83 for the insight.

    It appears I'm not the only one...check out this post over on ih8mud forum: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/toyoda-parts-history.835114/

    That's the same logo as on my PS reservoir. It turns out Toyoda is still a manufacturing company separate from, but probably wholly owned by (or vice-versa), Toyota Motors. They are into highly sophisticated machine tools now. Now, that's what I call vertical integration. :D
