Ok guys I have read a ton of reviews and watched a ton of videos about reliability of the Tundra. This helped me make my decision. I drove 6 hours to buy a the Certified 2016 CM SR5. It currently has 33,000 miles. I've put 5,000 on myself.
In the 6 months that I've owned it, the front rotors have warped. The second door actuator has went out. Now its in the shop for a cold start problem where it idles extremely rough and rich for about 15 seconds during this cold weather that we are experiencing.
I have plans for a leveling kit, camper shell, maybe wheels but I'm starting to wonder if this thing is going to nickel and dime me to death. I'm looking for a 200,000 mile truck. Not sure its going to make it at this point. Any thoughts?

The OEM rotors aren't the greatest. My non certified 07 had warped rotors when I bought it...replaced rotors and pads myself, other than that I did replace power steering pressure sensor at 12 years/98,000 miles. $20. Ran perfectly. Sorry to hear about your issues but your Tunny was certified. Make them correct your issues. Can't get nickel and dimed if the repair work is free, assuming you are still under extended warranty.

But really though, sounds like maybe it was rode a little hard by the previous owner. Do a once-over on some of these things and I bet you'll be fine.

You’re still new enough you may be able to buy a genuine extended warranty from a dealer

All vehicles have minor problems and maintenance, which are what these sound like. Only time will tell if this truck has more problems than normal. But historically Toyota has few serious problems. I doubt you made a mistake.

I’ve owned 6 Toyotas now, sure to have put 100s of thousands of miles combined. I can list the big ticket repairs I’ve had on all of them: clutch, cracked exhaust manifold, coilpacks on fwd v6.

I certainly hope not. I hope the nickels and dimes are on mod's as well. It's disheartening when you think you are going to have miles and miles carefree only to have issues so soon on a certified truck. I look forward to many great years ahead with this truck!

Your issues aren't too bad. Sucks though. Make the dealer fix them. Let us know how it works out.

I've always got the extended warranty and never had to use them even once, but I believe in Murphy's Law. If I didn't get the extended warranty I'd no doubt wish I had it. :goingcrazy:

I've posted this before, but your rotors probably didn't warp. It really takes a lot to truly warp a rotor. Most likely had brake pad imprints left after a hard stop. I too thought that I had "warped" my rotors on my Tundra early on after a hard stop. But, then I did a little more research and tried re-bedding the brakes. Worked like a charm. No more pulsating under braking. I changed the OEM pads and rotors at about 65,000 miles (the rotors were fine, but I always put new rotors on when I change my pads). Probably could have got another 10K out of the pads, but didn't want to push it too much. Anyway, I have attached a video that describes the bed-in procedure that I use and does a pretty good job of describing what happens. YMMV, but ever since I started doing this on my vehicles, I have had no brake problems that is often mis-diagnosed as "warped rotors" (shops will often tell you that the rotors are warped - because they want your money).

Video is long, but worth it.

My rotors were warped. Couldn't get them turned they were so bad. Warpage can happen, but like you posted you need to make sure so you don't waste money on new rotors.

Since you only bought it 6 months ago and its certified you're covered under the 12 month/ 12k miles. And you have until 36k miles to purchase the Platinum Toyota warranty (supposed to cover everything). You can purchase it through ANY toyota dealer but the cheapest is (err....) cant remember the dealer name, but it's in michigan. Ill dig around and edit the post when I find it. I believe the gentleman quoted me $1400 for 7 years and 125k. Not too bad.

As for the door lock actuators, they’re a common issue on tundras. I’ve had to replace 2.

100,000 miles is nothing on these trucks.

    200,000 miles is nothing too.

Think bigger, if you want to keep it. My neighbor is driving a 4runner with over 325,000 miles on it with just regular maintenance. Dude at the gas station the other day was driving a 20 year old Tacoma that he said just won't quit running: again, just regular maintenance.

    Truck looks great, btw.

    Keep moving forward!

Yup. CPO will be covered for your first full year or 12k miles of your ownership. Rotors, if warped, would be part of that. As would the cold start and door actuators.

Give them a call. Be nice about it. I’d start with “not trying to be a dick here but... I have problems x,y,z. Truck isn’t even out of original warranty and certainly not out of my CPO warranty. Is there a time to set something up where I can have all 3 of these taken care of at the same visit? Thank you. I’m not talking about scratches in the clear coat. These are problems I was hoping to avoid by going with a Toyota. I’d like to get another one when this gets me to 200k”
You’d be surprised how far that will go.
