I use TechStream (now transitioned to GTS+) for work. We can't justify the cost of a yearly license, so we buy a 2 day license for $70. I realize the route you guys are taking and don't take issue with it. However, if you get between a rock and hard place, $70 for 2 days isn't that bad IMHO in lieu of bringing it to a dealer.

The only real issue is the necessary cable. Right now, TechStream is obsolete for Toyota. Toyota will only 'support' the use of a Mongoose cable, which is quite pricey. I use a Bosch tool that we primarily use for other software, it works most of the time. I also have a NEXIQ tool as a back up to the Bosch tool.

If someone uses one of those Chinese knockoffs from Amazon with GTS+ and has success, PLEASE let me know. Very curious.

Fun Fact: I can get A LOT of information about collisions and such from this software, and often, when equipped, images from any forward facing cameras.... so if you happen to be in there, you might find it entertaining to look at the Vehicle Control History and any associated images. You don't have to have an actual collision to have events to review.

Heading out to see if it will comunicate with the truck.

The VM version did function, but seemed a bit clunky.

Took 3 tries before it would connect to my '04 Tacoma. I've had an air bag fault since I got it. It did find that.

Was suprised to see that nothing populated in the customization field. I so wanted to lose the seat belt chime and turn down the key in the ignition/door chime.

Will try it out on one of the Tundra's tomorrow.

I have first hand experience that a 2005 Sequoia and 2007 FJ do not have the option to remove the seat belt chime. But 2nd gen Tundras and 5th gen 4Runners do. Likely way more too.

On the older trucks, I just unplug the cable under the driver seat that goes to the seatbelt latch. That removed the chime but not the dash light, which is fine with me.

So I got this just for the hell of it, shipping was like superfast. Did you get this error when you started your TIS?

I think I've got that warning. I clicked ok and ran it.

Techstream can't do anything until you get into specific ECU's.

Actually I watched the video and he gets the same error. Good to go I guess. So yeah this Mongose clone works pretty well, good driver install as well.

    Thread revive:

Got around to play with my $20 TS this evening.

Was able to do all the customizations that I wanted, and some I don't know if I needed to change. Well worth it.

    Question:

Does a '21 tundra with keyless entry shut off on its own after 40 minutes of idling? Mine did while I was down loading the vehicle history. Got to the 13 minute point(est) and the truck shut off.

It started up with a normal push of the start button.

It was getting late so I did not feel like waiting the 15 minutes to download the history again.

Just curious if the truck has a shut off feature. I did not see that in the customizations index, but will look next time I fire up the TS program.

Not sure about the answer to your question but for most operations you don't need the truck running to use TS, you can just have it in ACC mode. Obviously for certain things you do but it will tell you if you need or don't.

I believe it will shut off with the push start models. It’s a safety feature Toyota puts into their vehicle so that if the vehicle is in a garage so that you don’t become overwhelmed by exhaust fumes.

Did you buy the Mongoose interface through AliExpress? I looked and did see anything like the one pictured?

Thanks for the reply. Good to know that shut off feature is baked in to the push button versions.

I was pretty sure I made no customization changes that would cause the truck to shut off. But you always have a small amount of doubt that is powerful enough to wake you up at night.

I was running the truck because the garage was 30*F and the heated seats felt great while playing with the TS program.

My TS version is #12 and it only goes to 2017. I have a '21 Tundra. So I just entered my truck as a '17. I was wondering if that was a a cause for it to shut off.

I believe I picked up the cable off eBay. It came with instruction to load the TS program, but it wanted you to DL a bunch of bullshit side programs to DL the TS. I didn't use those, I just used the Ih8 mud instructions and used the eBay cable.

You should install TIS 18. Use my link in this post and send me the ID so I can give you a license. Your version 12 is playing with fire on a 21, is dangerous :)

I can do that. On my phone now, but can do it later when I get on the laptop.

    Thanks!

As John suggested, get the latest version. There are quite of few changes between the 2017 and 2021 and you’re not utilizing everything that is available to you on Techstream. Remember though, if you don’t know, don’t go. There are some things you could do that will cause you to have to call a tow truck to bring it back to Toyota (Imobilizer).

I have that one as well and it works perfect, as good as the Mongose clone. Keep that one if working for you. I was just curious so I bought this to test it.
