You still made a good point. Anything to slow "them " down. The masterlock should be as good. "Good" meaning they don't get your gate.

    Masterlock would still work OK.

I like that even though my McGard fits pretty snug. Not loose at at all.

My buddy works at our Toyota dealer here and he priced a tail gate for me because I have a small dent in mine. $700 with no guts and unpainted. That's one without a camera too

Tail gates are not cheap. (Unless you buy a hot one off Craig's List) o_O

No shit apparently. I think it is silly how easy you can take tailgates off anyway. I mean it should require a little bit of work not just pull them right off

Tailgate theft goes in waves around here. There'll be a rash of them, along with rear seat thefts from SUV's, the police will catch a couple of thieves, it'll die off, then start again. I have one of these. http://www.masterlock.com/personal-use/product/8253DAT It's cheap insurance.

If you use a hose clamp, get the highest quality you can find and bend the excess over the screw slot. A little work with pliers to make it wrap around tightly will add to the thieves level of difficulty and make them go elsewhere. They don't want to work for it, or hang around and get caught. The best you can hope for is to make them think "Next" when they see whatever you've done to protect it.

So I thought about this and decided hey why not have one extra obstacle. I added the hose clamp but I turned it backwards and tightened it with a wrench so it can't be removed with a screw driver.

Once you close the tailgate, the head of the clamp will be facing down. All a person would have to do is get underneath with a long screw driver/socket and utilize the space behind the bumper and loosen the clamp. Clamps are only a delaying tactic. Most thieves won't bother. They want the fast rip off.

Its turned at the right angle no screw driver will get it off. So unless they carry the proper wrench....

I am OCD about my tailgate. I have woken up in the middle of the night and run out to my truck to make sure the tail gate is locked. Wish it fit in my garage

Did this as soon as I got mine home. Turned the nut down and tightened with wrench so you cannot simply undo with a screwdriver. Make it harder for the stinkin thieves.

Wouldn't this serve the same purpose and give you the ability to lock and unlock from your remote?

Not affiliated with the product or seller in any way but ordered one a few days ago.
