Yes, I still think it is true. The videos show different applications than the tail gate situation. There is a big difference in vertical strength or encapsulating the cups, bricks, spheres etc. in the liner, than when it is applied on a flat plate surface. I can roll a sheet of paper in a tight roll and stand on it if placed vertically, but I can poke my pinky finger through the same sheet of paper when it is just a flat surface.

Not going to argue about it. Just saying.

That’s fair, but by the same logic, what good is an additional sheet if aluminum on top of the steel?

I’m right there with you. Friday’s and Saturday’s I say a little prayer that all get to argue with someone online to help my day go by quicker.... I should go find a raptor thread...

My point exactly about the videos. They can show you all kinds of impressive stuff, but it does not necessarily proof anything.
I do agree with you though that my statement about "No" structural strength is not correct. I should have said "No significant" strength.
Let's leave it at that ...

Doesn’t sound normal. I have stood nearly every spot of my tailgate loading 200 lb deer etc. never felt unsafe or like I was sinking in.

I’ll be honest you have a very valid point on the structure “axis” that is supports. As well as good example with the paper analogy

Same here. I’ve moved a lot of heavy stuff mostly stepping on the tailgate.
I guess there must be a soft spot OP hit.

When I worked as a plumber there were some... characters who would frequent the shop to pick up scrap metal and old water heaters. One day i did a job swapping out a commercial 120 gal water heater, we used a fork lift to get the old one into my truck to haul away. When we got to the shop I chained it to a post by our dumpster and drove away to drop it. It was a pain in the ass to stand it back up.

Next day I'm hanging out in the back having a good smoke and one of those "characters" shows up in his Tacoma and sizes up the heater.

He says he will be back and shows up 20 minutes later with his cracked out buddy. They backed the truck up to it, dropped the tailgate and managed to tip the water heater toward the bed. I was watching with a few buddies by this point, all knowing at some point this would go bad. They must have had some serious tweeker strength because after 2 tries they managed to lift the bottom of the heater! Unfortunately the tailgate wasn't as strong and it folded as we watched.

"WHOA WHOA WHOA DROP IT DOWN! AHHHH SHIT!!!"

The driver placed around pissed off talking about his wife, then took off the gate and set it aside. Tweeker strength round 2, they managed to slide it up and in. We were all amazed. He put his taco shell of a tailgate in the bed and tied up the heater with ratchet straps, then drove away at 5mph.

Was a funny thing to see happen while having a smoke break.
