Getting my welder on and off I have to slide it onto the tailgate. It weighs around 500lbs. I could how someone standing with all their weight on their feet could put more pressure in a smaller area. That's why I prefer the plastic liners because i think it disperses the weight better then spray liners.

I wouldn’t mind just the tailgate plastic that you have there. That looks pretty stout.

Thats cool! I have to have one. So im guessing you dont know the part number? Does anyone know the part number on this? A search says Weathertech has one but it is different than yours. I would prefer the Toyota oem.

Sorry to hear about issue- couple weeks ago I was loading my ATV into Tundra and ramp spun out from under the rear tires and frame rails creased the tailgate flat area and pushed metal out in two spots on top of gate- removed plastic cap and used Redneck body work tools= dead blow hammer and 2x4 to flatten area and reinstalled cap- can’t tell when closed except for scuffs on plastic cap F2EA66AA-F58C-4CCC-905F-E4F4D0509873.jpg

This is why I tell everyone to get the plastic liner. Sure they may ‘scratch’ the bed underneath, but the plastic liner is far superior if you use your truck for other than grocery shopping.

I loaded a 550lb gun safe into my Tundra a couple weeks ago. One 200lb person standing in the gate with it.

    No issues.

I like the protection I get from my spray in liner. But I love the durability of the plastic. Best of both worlds is having a spray in and plastic. For me I would just like to protect my tailgate a little better. If I was going to haul something in the bed that I was afraid of it denting, I would get a sheet of plywood.

I loaded a 500# table saw into my truck a few weeks ago. The full weight was supported entirely by the tailgate. I was standing on it as well. No dents......

I know this is a lousy picture but you can see the gap between the tailgate and the bed. As I said before. As I was standing at the inward edge of the tailgate I could feel it collapsing under my feet. I moved as quickly as possible to get back into the bed but it was too late.

My dealership says that is not a factory part...they show one that looks completely different and they Also say it's not sold separately. That was a waste of time checking on that.

This is a standard generic hard slippery plastic...better than nothing but I'm still looking for heavy duty diamond plate aluminum

I see several posts above recommending to add bedliner. How would that help against dents from standing on the tailgate - bedliner, as hard as it is for protection against scratches is not going to do anything against dents - there is no structural strength in it. I'm not talking about a thick rubbery rhino liner that can absorb shocks from falling objects, but regular bedliner and a point load such as a person's heel is not going to make any difference.

The plastic liners like the post above will help against that, but not spray or roll on paint liners.
