Ok guys and gals, you haven't steered my wrong yet! I need some input on these two companies since the time to build a quality audio system is growing near. I have 17 Crewmax Limited with the JBL system and I'm going to keep the stock head unit in place. I'm not looking to build a bass machine, I just want really solid system with great overall sound. My budget is about $2000 and I've heard really good things about both of these companies. What say all of you (even if you just give me the name of who you'd go with)? Most important to me is sound quality and customer service. I've read everything I can find on here about the two but some of the comparisons are dated and need fresh input (so before you chime in and tell me to search, i have!). I appreciate your input and opinions.

Not even a close race. Tech12volts for sure. They are light years ahead of *********, who well no name products and stamp their name on it. James over at tech12volts is the man, honest and helpful. You're money will go further with James as well, quality products and better customer service

Couldn't agree more. Don't have experience with taco tunes, but James was available and responded quickly and with patience. His service is terrific, and my system is uh-mazing for less than $1k from him. Use that left over budget $'s and upgrade your head unit. Do it all at once. That's the only thing I'd do different

I haven't has any experience with both but from reading about the products tech12 offers proven name brand products. Someone here posted a while back that taco tune products are rebranded BOSS audio products. With $2k budget you can rebuild the crappy jbl system, which I did.

Well I sent an email to James at Tech12Volts and to ********* customer support....James replied almost immediately and began helping me put together a quality JL Audio system. So it looks like all of your votes were spot on. Friday night, on a holiday weekend, taking the time to answer questions. Now that's some customer service! No reply from *********...
Folks, I think we have a winner already but I'll keep checking this thread.

With a 2k budget I'd be willing to bet you can get a bad ass system headunit included. I'd imagine if you keep the head unit you will regret it. I just replaced mine with a 4 year old used kenwood and its still a huge improvement

I know that a new head unit would be a good move, but I kind of want to keep this system stealthy and not advertise. Keeping the head unit stock helps me with this, but I don't know..any of you guys keep the stock HU for this reason?

Still looks pretty stock to me. And the maestro module let's you keep the OEM functions and adds a few more functions

I don't think you can go wrong with either. I have experience with both companies. I did install the taco tunes starter system. The only thing rebranded are the amplifiers. The 6.5 speakers and subwoofer are image dynamic. One of the big reasons I chose taco tunes is because of their online install videos are specifically for tundras. I didnt find that on 12volts website and I didnt want to call everytime I had a question. But with that said I know James responds immediately to emails and phone calls. Taco tunes also answered when I called. My system was less then 1k and sounds amazing i kept the stock hu. All of the products are well made and the system went together well. I think you'll be happy either way both companies are top notch and offer good solutions

I also recommend James with tech12volts. His customer service is second to none. I bought several components from him and one of the speakers was damaged during shipment. He immediately sent a replacement without anymore questions other than giving him the serial number for my speaker. I will continue to buy from him for any audio needs.

I say put a side $500-$700 in a head unit along with maestro module. The stock HU is a dinosaur compared to aftermarket HU. Having Apple Carplay or Android auto is a game changer. When I had the stock HU I never used the navigation, I just used Google maps on my phone.

Another vote for @james@tech12volts , upgrade the head unit too. Major difference. For best aesthetic look use the scoche dash kit. Metra missed the mark on our trucks.

A few people have had issues with *********, hence the negativity youve read on other posts about them. I did a lot of research before diving into my audio build, and found out a few things about both.

Ultimately i decided to go with *********, and i have been nothing less than extremely satisfied with my system and experience with them.

    heh... this debate again :)

I went with ********* and I am extremely satisfied. Check out my installation and review thread:
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/*********-system-1b-detailed-installation-and-reviews.29358/

With you being in Texas, I would also recommend you going with *********. They are near San Antonio and I like to support local companies. They have installed hundreds of systems in the trucks of the local San Antonio Tundra Crew group. They also have an exclusive relationship with Red McCombs Toyota in San Antonio. They install systems in their new Tundras, 4 Runners, and Tacomas.

I am not sure where in Texas that you live, but if we are close enough, I can let you listen to my system.

My vote is also Tech12Volts. Im very happy with my Jbl upgrade from him. You should really be able to make your Tundra shake for 2k, no problem. I would try and upgrade the HU too, but you might need just a little more than 2k depending on the HU.
