Hey guys. Recently joining the Toyota community I've grown to love my Tundra. Now the wife is in need of a new vehicle and I'm definetly going Yota. She really likes the "look" of the TRD Pros and who doesn't? We're currently deciding on the 4Runner or the Taco, since I've found this forum very helpful in the past I'm looking for some wisdom on this topic (hopefully I'm not hijacking this Tundra forum). We don't have any kids so seating shouldn't be an issue and she will mainly use it for daily driving and maybe a little overlanding with me in the Tundra. Any recommendations or experience with either one in the past? They seem to have the same drivetrain and engine if my research is correct... Appreciate any input! With this new addition the garage is going to look badass

I've setup a little poll just for fun so vote for which you'd get!!!

Love my wife’s 4Runner with the 4.0 and 5spd. She says it’s her favorite vehicle of all time. Hated my 17 Tacoma with the 3.5 and 6spd. They have totally different drivetrains now. Make sure you try them both.

4Runner all day everyday. Especially doesn’t make sense to get a taco if you already have a truck.

Plus, made in Japan. No goofy shifting transmission. Solid as could be. And with all the different trims, she can get anything from the limited to the TRD

If she likes power and acceleration she will hate both of them. My wife really wanted the 4Runner until she drove one.

She now has a Seqouia TRD Sport...V8 baby

    Agreed.

I just think the 4runner handles and drives better, plus it has more interior space for storage, and you get more for your money. [It's a better vehicle.]

We have the premium trail version with the slight lift and hood scoop. However, they're all great.

The 4runner has plenty of power for us [but then, we are older and not trying to burn the tires off]: I mean, it's not like it is under-powered and you can't pass safely. It has plenty of power.

    That said, it's no V8.;)

The 4runner is cheaper and easier to park in smaller spaces too.

4 runner is outdated in tech and clunky. New Tacoma's kind of suck. Get a Rav 4 trail

I'll see your Rav 4 trail and raise you a Subaru outback: Toyota owns 20% of them; they have the best safety ratings; they're all-wheel drive; they're cheaper; they make better mileage; and they are extremely reliable. [The leather seats are more comfortable, btw.]

Haha thanks for the help guys. Judging by the poll and all the comments I guess the 4Runners the way to go! Guess the Taco isn't getting the love it used to. I was leaning Taco because I thought it looked a lot nicer but seems like I can put looks aside for a better built vehicle. Never thought I'd have a Toyota garage given 5 years ago I had 2 Chevys and a GMC. I wanted to stick with American so badly but with their quality going down the shitter it was a tough transition and even made a few family and family dissapointed

4Runner all day every day. The Pro looks AMAZING! I do agree the 4Runner is older, but we all purchased Tundras for a reason. If we bought it for the techs and the fancy gadgets, we all would be driving something different.

I owned the newest 2016 Turdcoma for 3000 miles then couldn't wait to trade for a Real truck, 2017 Tundra! I imagine the older gen Tacoma's were better but this one sucked, Period!

Drive a 4 runner. It was too tiny inside for my liking. We wanted to want one but it just isn't that great. Maybe built out and lifted would be good offroad but not very good at anything. We kept my 14 taco and have a canopy. Beats a 4runner for our needs. Rav 4 was another solid option
