Hi all! New Tundra owner from Maine and new member to the forum. I just picked up a 21' nightshade edition which will be primarily used as a weekend warrior rig with many trips to the northern part of the state which is mostly gravel logging roads with many potholes and washboards. I am not planning on doing anything too technical with this truck (I have a 4runner for that) but would like to make it a more comfortable ride on some of the nastier logging roads we have up here. Here is my criteria to narrow down the selection...

    • Something that will hold up to salt/corrosion (lots of salt used on the roads up here in the winter)
    • improved comfort at moderate speeds on rough roads/logging roads
    • looking to lift approximately 2-2.5" max
I have done a lot of searching but there are just so many options out there. I appreciate any and all advice/opinions.

Quality 2.5” coilovers up front, and Deaver springs in the rear with good shocks…

Air down and go to a smaller diameter wheel!

I have just a couple questions for you here first -
    • What's your budget?
    • How much extra weight (if any) do you have on the truck? I see the tonneau cover, but is it generally empty except for loading up with gear on the weekends?

I’d like to keep it under $3k. It seems like there are many options out there that would fall under this budget. I would only be loading up with my gear on the weekends. No plans for any heavy accessories.

Elka is very popular up here in Canada because of its corrosion resistant materials. I’ve had Icon on a Tacoma and they were much more pitted and required rebuilds every 2-3 years.

Nice truck. So what did you pay for it and how many miles where on it if you don't mind me asking?

I’m not sure of how other suspensions feel but I also have a cabin in Northern Maine (70 miles down the Golden Rd) and I know the roads your probably talking about. We all drive Tundras and for the most part they handle those roads solid but my father has a 2020 TRD Pro and it seems like those roads were made for that suspension. I can drive 70 in that truck on those logging roads and it soaks them up smooth. It seems the faster you go the better it feels. Also it’s great on the technical off the path winter roads sucking up ruts and what not. I’d say find a pair of take offs or news ones but I don’t know if what others are suggesting are a superior suspension.

Off topic, but before you start throwing money at the truck, give the frame a really good rustproofing with woolwax or fluid film. Take your time and get up inside the blind areas with a spray tube. Try to keep it off the rubber components. I would also carefully take out each transmission pan bolt one at a time and apply anti seize so if you ever need to replace a solenoid you won't be breaking bolts. Carry on!

I plan on doing it this fall before the snow starts to fly. Been using fluid film and wool wax for years. Has kept my 4runner's frame looking like new.

After a ton of research I am strongly leaning towards the Toytec Aluma series 2.5 (made by Elka) anyone on here have any experience with this setup?

Several folks on here with that setup. You'll be happy with it
