Yes, the TRD are very close to 480. There's no official literature that I can find but I researched it a lot and eventually tuned with them before going to 650s.

I would absolutely go to the 650s if you plan to buy injectors.

The only reason I could think they want the 480s is if they would still be using the stock tune. The 480s would be able to be managed with fuel trims and still run the stock ecm somewhat. 650s would likely need a tune.

I DID see someone say they ran 550s with the stuck ecm and had no problems.(but never did this myself.. Disclaimer)

If you plan to tune it anyway, for SURE go with the bigger ones. I'm very happy with mine so far.

Thanks for the info. For the 650's, did you go with DW or another brand?

These are the ones I was looking at:

I'm sending off my Magnuson to be checked and refreshed from SCOL and wondering if it's worth sending off the Toyota high flow injectors to get flow matched or worked? I need to dial my tune in, but I'm running 9:1 afr at full throttle and at sea level can see upwards of 10psi and have an aeromotive 340 fuel pump; so the truck doesn't seem to be starving for fuel and runs fine, but since I have the injectors out and the blower will be away for a week or two, now is the time to mess with the injectors if necessary. Thoughts? @ViktorG I know you have different injectors, I don't think that's necessary but what are your thoughts?

9 to 1 with 10psi? That seems REALLY rich honestly.

I had my TRD cleaned and tested because they'd sat for a little while... But looking back, I would have been better off just buying the 650s then and getting bigger injectors that COME cleaned and matched for a few bucks more.

I'm at sea level on a 2.38 pulley(up to 8/9 psi) , FFV pump with boost a pump, 650s, and I'm at 11:1 for the majority of my run.

If you plan to push a little harder I'd just upgrade them. If you've been using them then I don't know that I'd with too much about them being cleaned unless you've got a lot of miles through them.

I had my TRD injectors on for 9 years and they were working fine at 14 psi boost, never had them cleaned.
I don’t really see any Toyota port injector problems at work, even on high mileage cars. Direct injectors are a different story...

    Hello,

This may have been mentioned elsewhere but I have been unable to find it. I just called Sparks Toyota in South Carolina and they no longer install the supercharger. Can somebody recommend an installer? I am in Southeast in Georgia. Thank you

Well that sucks. That splains why they took them off sparksparts.

I thought that the TRD branded ones were discontinued and folks would have to go to Magnuson, Whipple, or that Australian company that is escaping my mind at the moment...

These aren't TRD superchargers (which were magnuson) - they're Magnuson SCs that Sparks was selling/installing.

I was told they cut ties with magnusson due to an issue with availability of kits/parts.

Any recommendations in the DFW area for a reputable dealer/mechanic that installs the SC and tuner?

Want a supercharger and a tune but after reading up on it I'm undecided. It sounds like its not as much the supercharger brand that makes the difference but the tune and shop that installs everything. Seems like OV tune is the best. Is anyone ever gonna come out with a supercharger/tune kit that you can buy together that is reliable and readily available? Seems like there's a pretty big demand.

I live in Santa Clarita. Anyone know any reputable shops close to me that have experience with installing superchargers and tune on 3rd gen?

If you wanted to spend two days in the Phoenix area let me know. I can provide the contact info for the shop that did mine.

Ordered a Magnuson SC for a '21 TRD Pro, but now I'm not so sure anymore. The premium fuel requirement makes me question it's viability to travel South (Mexico to Costa Rica, etc...) and any potential reliability issues. Anyone have any thoughts on SC reliability for long distance touring?

You can always buy some torco and keep it on hand to boost octane levels if you are limited to poor quality fuel.

Do a bit of research as I haven't but I thought fuels everywhere but the USA, because there are different regulations, are "better" fuels...if worried, like AZTundra suggested, some Boost octane will be an easy thing to carry if needed...like vitamins for yourself when traveling really...you made a good choice! You will never want another truck once its boosted!

The key if you can't find higher octane is don't fucking floor it. Somehow this goes over everyones heads. Sure you can carry 50 gallons of Torco with you for a long trip, or just be smart and don't give it 10psi of boost on 85 octane at sea level and letting it ping away. There are specific load and timing scenarios where you need the higher octane, for "normal" driving you don't.

I've driven around Baja with the blower, I've driven in remote parts of Utah where there was no high octane, etc. and I have a smaller pulley on my magnuson too. Be smart, listen to your truck, you'll be fine, and you should be doing that anyways.

Agreed. And I do drive fairly conservatively on the gas a vast majority of the time. The truck will likely see a daily 1,200-1,500lb payload (haul requirement) due to the Super Pacific camper shell & subsequent interior buildout I also have on order. The potential of higher boost could correlate with high mountain passes, steep inclines, obstacle navigation, or overtaking under load. But yes, to your point, limiting boost would be a key factor in preventing pre-detination in the cylinders.

I'm used to aftermarket turbo-charging in passenger cars, so this will be my first super-charger. With the turbo setups, I'm familiar with running software that's configurable through the ODBII port to adjust for petrol or boost ranges. The benefit at altitude with turbos is undeniable. And I believe the SC will afford a similar benefit. So I'm excited for the system, but less so at the expense of naturally aspirated reliability if it can be mitigated by running colder plugs, software, or less desirably so a fuel adjunct.

Sorry the suspense is killing me after reading this entire thread for the past few hours and being left on a cliff hanger..

@AZTundra What ever came of the tick? You left to check it with the hood open at idle and I've been on the edge of my seat since..

@66Fastback What ever came of the grenaded engine? You left with them bulletproofing your motor and I'm curious as to what was done..

I finally got a custom tune last December from @ViktorG. I did in fact have pinging and the new tune cleared up my issues. I wish I didn't wait so long to get it looked at and corrected, but it's been flawless ever since. The Magnuson has been on the truck 2 years and 7 months now and approximately 27K miles.

Woe. Sat here at work reading this start to finish. It took hours. Do they have any of these sc abd tunes smoothed over yet? I'm certain I'm gonna do it but I'm gonna be pissed if I'm pulling a motor in short amount of time. I understand that's the risk and a shorter life span but damn. It won't put me in a bind cause I have a little gas saver I put most the miles on but they're proud of these 5.7 iforce motors. Even used is expensive. Any suggestions on blowers, tune and shop to do the tune? in the beaumont tx area?(2 hours or so from houston) 2019 trd sport non flex fuel

FFV, TRD Supercharger, Bullydog FFV Tune, 2014 Fit Kit, TRD Dual Exhaust, Sequoia Front Sway Bar, TRD Rear Sway Bar, TRD Skid Plate, TRD Pro Grill, 040 White Mirror Covers, 040 White Door Handles, Ready Lift 3"/2", Anzo 3rd Brake Light, Winjet LED Tail Lights, LED Fog Lights, LED Rock Lights, Axle Vent Mod, SDHQ Hidden Winch Mount, 12,000lb Winch. Storm Trooper Shift Knob. BMF BATL Wheels.
Your safest option is the Magnuson blower. It was developed by Magnuson and Toyota and was originally a TRD part. The tune is safe and works well. Will give you 550hp a little more than Toyotas 500hp tune.
