No one has mentioned Deaver springs? A call to Matt at MCM Fab might get a lot of your questions answered.

@mtntop has alcans on his 1st gen. He said it rides great and they are in grand junction. I wish I'd have gone that route instead of shackles and air bags.

I'm looking at the site right now. Sounds like a route that makes sense. I'm not sure i want to spend a ton of money on springs. Any idea what kind of price they are?

Actually, after I wrote that, I remembered or thought I remembered that the deavers don't carry weight well but are awesome offroad. This is stuff I've read and have no real life experience with. I think there's also a deaver mini pack. I need to search MCM Fab to be sure. I'm running the Toy Tec shackles at 1". I've been thinking of switching to a mini pack. @jberry put the notion in my head that longer shackles can cause the leafs to do strange things.
You're carrying a considerable amount of weight but only part of the year. I'm clueless about what would be your best set up but Matt could give you some good advice.

I'm gonna call tomorrow. I'm also looking at the Alcon idea. The cost is a factor with all the other mods i've still to pay off soooooooooo...that's an issue. I have so many things i want to do and I'm frustrated that it's not bonus time yet!!!

I haven't talked to them. Probably varies depending on what you want. Give them a call! I think @LOTSOFTOYS has them on his truck to.

@LOTSOFTOYS told me the same thing about shackles. My leafs look like they are curved backwards from the axle back to the shackles. Or to phrase that another way, the rear half of the spring has a little bit of upward arch. Even when the truck is empty.

I have purchased a couple Alcan springs for rigs. Top notch service and detailed customization.

I think @TRON wound up replacing the rear leaf packs. from them flatting out from the weight he has been hauling around.

no unloading of fun bro. gotta keep that rolling. I'm making some adjustments to handle what i have already in play.

word to the wise: never ever ever unload fun. That's the only thing making me feel young, which i'm not anymore :transformer:

Gunna quote you here man just so the info is out there. I did post all this in my build thread somewhere too.

Valley Spring Service in Phoenix, AZ basically re-arched my stock leaf packs and added 1 main leaf for height, then 2 more overload leafs for weight tolerance. I am super happy with this because it not only held ~600lbs in the bed, but I still had a rake in the rear end giving me about 3.75-4" height unloaded and only dropping to about 3" loaded. Also was half the price of deaver springs which are the usual remedy to this sagging rear end problem. Deavers are your best bet unless you have a custom spring shop nearby that can make you some new custom packs. Hope this helps. Just for future reference as well, that longer rear shackle lifted the rear end nicely, but also very quickly wore out the stock leaf packs causing them to sag and go negative arch.

If I started over or had to suggest to anyone just starting out, don't buy a shackle first, get an AAL, progressive pack, or just straight to a custom 7+ leaf spring pack. Once you figure out the weight tolerance and height but want more, don't get anything over an 1.25" shackle. Camburg and Total chaos make a 0.75" shackle and then coachbuilder has the +1.

I'm currently sitting on stock leaf but Toytec rear. it just wasn't enough for the weight and stress. Thanks for the info. Certainly helps to hear someone has some experience with the same issue

Yea don't expect any shock to help lift the rear unless it's a coilover (has springs) or a big bypass shock. Toyota springs are ridiculously soft and the tacomas have the same issues
