I have a feeling the first chance I get to drive will be the day the DC lands, which is supposed to be by this up coming weekend. One thing I did find odd what that the sales guy said the transport info showed the truck on a train from TX to Chicago, but from everything I've read trucks coming to OH should be going through Cinci, not Chicago. Idk for sure.

No, they are pretty quick to remove them once they are spoken for... My guess is to stop the constant calls haha...

The story on my DC goes that it was on hold for the Service Manager (his 9th or 10th hold), and he released it literally 15 minutes before I saw it online and called...

I had just sold my 14 DC to Germain, and was sitting at Roosters 20 min later surfing the web and found it... Perfect storm...

Lugoff Toyota in Lugoff SC is selling at no mark up. Still very willing to deal. Bought at MSRP, plus dealer and SE Toyota add ons (negotiated these) and they took my outside financing with my credit union. Just an FYI if you want to travel slightly further than Georgia.

I think things are changing since the economy is tanking and interest rates have risen again the demand has soften. I have a very specific combo and will not compromise or pay markup and been looking actively nationwide for about 3 months. Every dealer I contacted more than one state away said no to out of state buyer. One dealer about 4 hours and 4 states away had one and I asked them they said no to out of state. 3 weeks later after the last interest rate hike they still had the truck I asked again. They agreed and I'm picking up the truck next week.

Yea, that’s what I’m hoping to avoid… My local credit union quoted me the best 60 mo rate I’ve found so far at 1.99%… they last raised theirs 2nd week of May, so I’m hoping to get my truck or find another asap before they hike again.

Yeah. They were pretty good. Worked hard to earn my business and took pretty good care of me. The only thing I didn’t care for was the hard sell on back end products in the finance office. I know that where they make their money, and I had to threaten to walk away. My sales guy was great though.

I know for toyota usa regions, they are discouraging outside regional sales. i know in the kansas city region they are doing a surcharge against the dealer for those selling outside the region.

I'm in Florida trying to buy a truck in Texas. I've been getting the run around for the last 6 weeks. The truck was built on 4/29. I still don't have it. I call them every Wednesday to ask if I'm flying out on Friday. They always tell me no, they still haven't received the vehicle and that it's at the port.

I'm beyond fed up with this whole process. If it wasn't going to be another 6 months before getting a vehicle from another source (Toyota or another brand) I probably would have already gone in that direction.

The dealer is certainly lying about Toyota instructing us to not sell out of state..that is dealership policy. It's pretty simple why dealers are doing it though. Obviously with such limited supplies, you want to take care of your local customers first. This gives you the best opportunity to see these trucks in the near future for service and also gives you a chance to trade it in in a few years. WHen you ship a truck halfway across the country..that's the end of the transaction. The second reason has become exporters blowing up phones all day to get their hands on them. It's frustrating and Toyota DOES NOT want you selling these people a vehicle. They even have an entire spreadsheet full of exporters that you cannot sell too.

Understandable. Sounds like you work in a dealership? If so, and you feel like making a one time exception to the local rule, let me know if you get a Limited Crewmax in Lunar Rock or Army Green, with TRD OR, Premium, Power, JBL and Pano Sunroof packages... It'll be our secret, and nobody has to know... :D

 Yes, I'm the new car manager so I get to see it all. I still sell to every state but it's just a little more leg work to make sure people are legit. I currently have 19 deposits on Limited Crewmaxes...so it could be a little bit of a wait lol.

Just out of curiosity, how many deposits are you seeing where the customers only request is color and one or two packages vs. someone like me who wants a miriad of packages and limited colors?

I do actually have a deposit locally on a Limited Lunar Rock equipped exactly how I listed above, but its a DC. Having just sold my 14 DC and learning that the new DCs are even smaller in the back, I have my reservations about going through with the purchase when it arrives. I guess we will wait and see soon.

This has been going on for awhile actually. At least around here.

When I started truck shopping in Oct/Nov of 2021, it was happening back then. I live in SW Nevada, near Las Vegas, which means that I have St George (UT), Phoenix (AZ), and all of Southern Cali within a few hours drive of me. I called (no joke) 2 dozen dealers during my search for the best deal. Every dealer in Utah and Arizona refused to sell to me because I was out of state. Probably half to two-thirds of the dealers SoCal wouldn't sell to me because I was out of state. I assumed it was because they thought I might be wasting their time so I offered to pay deposits over the phone, etc assuming we could get to a good number. No luck.

I had dealers tell me everything under the sun as a reasoning:
    • "It's a Toyota policy."
    • "We want to maintain a 'post-sale' relationship with the buyer."
    • "We want to keep our trucks for local buyers."
    • "We've had too much time wasted over the years dealing with out-of-state buyers."
Who knows what the real reason is and what is made up. In the end, if a dealership said that then I instantly didn't want to deal with them as much as they didn't want to deal with me. Several of the SoCal dealers that would sell to me...had crazy ADM over MSRP. Like $10k.

In the end, I bought at a dealer in the LV metro that was selling at MSRP with no markup. The only "forced option" over MSRP was $500 for a tint job. Overpriced but I knew I was going to tint the vehicle immediately after getting it so I let it slide. I put the deposit down in mid-Nov and took delivery of the truck on Dec. 15th.

It's sort of a mixed bag. Color is definitely the biggest preference for our customers. By the way, if you get a double cab, you can't get the panoramic roof (only regular moon roof).

Yep... A sunroof was family request, whether its regular or Pano... Pano was just the bonus of having the CM... Main reason for wanting CM is the (even) smaller back of the new DCs...

Strange... I just found one that would work for me at Chicago Northside Toyota, but since I'm out of state they want a few thousand in markups... Hard Pass...

I got lucky after a couple months and found a out of state dealer “eddys Toyota of Wichita KS” on auto trader who had a pretty rare color “Army green” 1794 fully loaded and were great to deal with! Had my new truck within a month of first contact. My local Toyota dealership in cedar park, Tx were terrible to deal with, no updates over the 4 months I waited. Got my deposit back and probably not returning with my business.
