Hey guys, Interested in putting a little bump in my tundra. I have JL 10w3v3s but have been told they will not fit in any boxes or behind the seat at all. They are brand new and would hate to have to buy new subs. Any other options? Would like to see some set ups. Post them up! Hope all is well and thank you in advance!

James @james@tech12volts has a box for the CM. I run the JL sub with the specific box he sent.

Here's a link to the ported dual 10s Sub Box that James makes...he also lists the recommended subs. (mostly 10w1 flavors)

For the people that have this exact box/subs set up, what are your thoughts on the performance? Thinking about grabbing one of these very soon.

I have the Tech12volts box with 2 JL 10” W0v3 being pushed at 300 RMS and there is plenty of bass. The performance for the money makes it an easy decision.
My understanding is only the W0 and W1 are the only JL subs that will fit in the box behind the seat.

I’m running a sealed box with the Pioneer Z series 10 inch subs. They are shallow mount and designed for hi-res audio. I decided to run them with the Alpine X series 6x9’s and 6.5’s, also designed for hi-res audio. The Alpine Halo plays flac files from usb. Powered by an 5 channel amp with 100x4 and 500x1. It sounds incredible. I am a former JL true believer, but the pioneer subs sound unbelievable with any type of music I throw at them. The Alpine kids are equally accurate. The system is all I hoped for. I plan to add some a-pillar pods soon. The soft domes in the dash are good but I want to get the front stage up a bit.

Note: if you are adding subs you need some form of dyna mat. I have at least two full days and over 400 invested in that shit to find and eliminate all the buzzing and vibrating. Love my Tundra, but wish the interior wasn’t made from the cheapest crap they could source.

Don’t be afraid of shallow woofers. I will admit I was hesitant, but these pioneers out perform the JL’s in every way.

I really need to knock out a build thread.

The JL’s you have wont fit. Most any shallow sub will work. If youre going ported, make sure u buy a sub or subs that will work with the limited airspace in our crewmax. I was only able to squeeze out 2.2 net volume. Im running 2 shallow pioneer 12s tuned to 33hz. It aint no competition truck but it gets the job done. And yes, thats the port sticking out. it sounds awesome firing out the front of the rear seat.

Also, listen to what @Twise said, dampening material is a must. And im gonna agree with him that Pioneer shallows will outperform JL shallows

I recently went with the 10” version that @vegas4x4 has. Went with a sealed pioneer enclosure because I’m not a huge fan of boomy bass. That and my hearing was crushed from my teenage stereo days. I’d love to listen to these pioneers up against a JL 10TW3d4. Those things look sweet and could definitely be put in a box behind the rear seat. $350 is a lot of bread though for a single sub

Im curious as well. JL probably has better SQ but is it worth the price jump. I got my pioneers for $80 a piece.

If you could fit a 10w3 that would be awesome. I ran two 10w3’s in my Mercedes and honestly the pioneer z10’s on 500watts is about everything you would expect from 2 10’s in a sealed enclosure. Tight, fast and accurate was the goal. Mission accomplished. My 10w3’s just gobbled power. I was constantly tinkering with the box and the power (never satisfied). I recommend the shallows and a sealed box. For the space and environment in the Tundra it’s optimal. Ever in Temecula hit me up and you can listen to it first hand.

The Pioneers are 250 each and worth every penny.

nice idea on the port placement @vegas4x4

Audio systems are customizable. What works for me may not work for you. My system is built for HD audio sources. 24bit Flac audio files. Can you hear the difference between Pink Floyd’s Wall album encoded at 320 mp3 and 24 bit flac? Perhaps not, but I can, and so I designed mine for that. Sort of an experiment.

Just ordered the custom box with two 10” JL from James at Tech12. Really looking forward to sound matting the rear and putting this box behind rear seats. I have an older 8” JL is a small box now, it was left over from my old truck. Looking for clean, tight bass - hoping this does the trick.
