I never get them just like I never buy extended warranties. I have come out way ahead following this policy. I have not had a flat on my truck in 30+ years. Now my daughter is different story. I call her the flat queen.

I ran st maxx’s And they were ok. Lots of pull and darting because of the tread. Super loud and heavy. Best tire out right now is the cooper at3 xlt

I went with the Pros for now. So far I like them.

Where are you getting the certificates for $22.50 a tire? Discount Tire around me charges $49 per.

Yeah, I'll second that the ST Maxx are...lively. Incredible tire but they take some getting used to. I'll probably give the AT3 XLT a shot for my next set since my driving is 70% pavement now and I don't often drive in heavy mud. Worst case, 2 sets from now and I'm back to the ST Maxx.

That's odd. The certificates for my KO2's were closer to $22.50 as listed above. Maybe they misquoted you?

Discount Tire certificates are negotiable at time of sale. I've gotten them for as low as $15 each. Never paid more than $20.

Nice to know. They told me that if I wanted to add the certificates I could do it up until the 1st rotation. I'm still on the fence. I've only had a flat tire once in my life.

Since this thread popped up, I wanted to give some additional props to the STT Pro. I did a run up some loose rocky and dusty trails in BigBear over the weekend and these things had INSANE traction. Way better than the KO2's I had on prior.

I had a wire clothes hanger puncture and internally damage one of my Maxx's. Slow leak. Went to Discount and left with a new tire. Certificates more than paid for themselves.

I got the certificates for that price through DT Direct. And I'm loving these STT Pros so far. Seem to be an awesome tire. Just gotta get more off-road miles on them. :D

Cost of certs is based on the price of the tire and certain regions are lower.

    See above.
Price of certs is not negotiable.
Price of certs is actually the only thing we as a salesman cannot change.

I guess the last two times I "negotiated" my tire certs was just a dream???? :notsure: It's been about 5 years ago since I last got tires from Discount. I'd get asked if I wanted certs for XXX $$ amount. I'd say..."Can you you better?" They always did and I was a long time regular customer.

Then they took money off of the tires to help you out.

They did make adjustments to the service order. Nevertheless those adjustments to the overall tire price weren't done until I requested a cert discount. The service manager always signed off on it. I usually saved close to the cost of one certificate. Not a bad discount!

But his point is that they can't discount the certificates. You could have just negotiated for a better price on the tires which I did at Discount Tire recently. It's like when you trade in a car. They can give you more for the trade in or take more off the new vehicle. It's just changing the line item. Total savings is going to be the same.

It's the same difference same outcome. Some people don't want to pay for certs. I do so naturally when I'm asked the inevitable question on whether I want certs? "Maybe, discount?" Same difference. Not sure what the big deal is. Doesn't matter what actually gets marked down Lol
