You are going to love it! Spent my first night in the Four wheel camper last night, and wow it beats a tent for me. Pops up in 5 minutes, feels much more secure than a tent. I’ve never rooftop tented, just skipped that step. You also look like you’ll be a bit more off road ready than me with the narrower camper and 37’s. I have a welder close by who did my sliders. He’s gonna be building me a hybrid bumper for my next upgrade which will include lights and a winch. Loving your photography and destinations, will be following your build.

Yeah, I've had RTT's on trucks and on a trailer, both soft and hardshell and then a GFC for a bit. I'm definitely looking forward to the size of the new camper and the convenience of setup. It's a huge step up over everything I've used in the past.

I saw in your thread that you got the new camper. My buddy has one and they are awesome.

And thanks for the compliments on the photos haha, they are all taken with my wife's phone. It's got a really good camera in my limited experience. I don't need any more expensive hobbies, so I'm staying away from anything photography related.

I also got the bumper and lights finished up last week and installed bed stiffeners prior to the camper install.

I like the bottle opener integrated into the bed stiffener? I have to the TC ones. Who makes those?

I built them. We have a plasma table in the shop that makes stuff like that pretty easy.

First night in the camper was awesome. There is a ton of space with the bed deployed and the tundra bed size is a huge improvement. We also temporarily installed the old cabinet, drawer and fridge slide we had in the Tacoma. We will build something very similar soon for the tundra but this works for now. On the new one the fridge will be almost 10" closer to the bedside and open up a lot more standing room.

We also found out that the solar panels installed by AT Overland will not work with the Redarc bcdc controller. The open circuit voltage is too high to function with it. Not knowing much about solar, I didn't even think to check compatibility. So now we are waiting to hear back from Redarc about possibly using another solar controller and keeping the dc-dc charging capabilities. I don't know if I can have solar input from another controller and have power coming in from the Redarc.

The solar stuff I resolved now. I added a Renogy Rover solar controller and everything works now. I have dc-dc charging when driving and solar when parked.

I recently installed the Cali raised 8 switch panel and I'm pretty happy with it. I only have two switches in use currently, but it functions as expected.

I'm still trying to figure out the wire routing, but I like the location.

I did. They finally shipped last Friday. Hopefully the Deavers ship early this week also. I went with a custom pack for all the weight I'll be carrying. It was all ordered at the end of May and it's been a long wait to get it all.

Rear bypasses and wheels showed up. Leaf springs will be here Monday.

    IMG_20200827_163210715_HDR.jpg

I also moved around some steel and plastic for the new tires.

    IMG_20200826_121025513.jpg

And I decided to get the tires out of the way in the shop and went ahead and put them on the truck. I mounted them on the truck with the completely stock pro suspension.

    Screenshot_20200827-091914.jpg

All the suspension will go on Monday when the springs get here. The factory rear suspension definitely hates all the weight from the camper.

I’ll be interested to see how you like the Deavers, I’m looking at alcan but know deaver is up there too. How much extra weight did you have them build for and how much lift did you ask for?
I’m 1750 lbs over stock before gear and I still want a front bumper/winch . I thought Timbren would be enough. It stops The squatting but rides like S always riding on the overload leaf spring.
I guess my concerns are getting too much lift, too stiff, not stiff enough, and a big investment. I will probably leave the camper on full time because I don’t have storage for it. Actually weighing my rig was the first step to make sure I get it right.

The Deavers were built for 2ish inches of lift with 1,000 lbs over stock on the rear axle. I just calculated all the weight I will be carrying. I should be pretty close on my estimate I think.

I had Deaver u-402 springs on my tacoma built for 700 lbs over stock and they did really well and rode great with a ton of travel the way I had them set up.

They make a good leaf spring from my experience and weighing your truck the way it will be set up is definitely a good first step to getting it dialed in. I'll post my experience with the springs after I get some miles on them.

The camper looks great on your truck! I am looking to order one soon, but have a couple questions you may be able to help with.
    1. When you go to collapse the camper, do you have to walk around the whole thing tucking in all the fabric? I always hated that with my hardshell RTT
    2. In one of the photos you have your bedding in the truck bed, is there not enough room to leave sleeping bags/pillows up top when it is collapsed? Woudl you be able to add some additional padding on top of the 2" pad that it comes with?
    3. do you think the camper is structurally strong enough to bolt jerrycans, water containers etc. to the outside?

Thanks for any info. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your truck build, its awesome already.

    1. It tucks itself pretty well on its own. Every now and then the front sticks out a bit. It's super easy to tuck though, much easier than any hardshell I've used. And if the fabric does stick out, it can still latch shut without damaging it. I'll grab a picture of it this weekend.

    2. I've left my stuff in there a couple times. I use a zero degree double bag so it's super thick. AT says you can't do it, but it could be done with thinner bedding very easily I think. A pad could probably be added easily enough. Here is a picture of the space that's available. There is probably 3-4" open.
    IMG_20200828_105044873_BURST000_COVER_TOP.jpg

    3. I would assume it's strong enough to mount things on the side, it's very solid. But I would contact AT directly and double check.

I will definitely regear down the road. It's not bad yet with factory gears, but I've only driven it a couple days like this. I'm sure it will get old. I'm planning on 5.29's eventually.
