Stolen catalytic converters!!

Someone stole all 4 of my CATS in Houston. Does anyone know the deminsions of the factory cats so I can build rebar cages around them after they fix my truck?

 

From what I understand you have plenty of time to design something as the backlog is 3-6 mos

 

OP, try searching on here for catalytic converters, and check the titles only. You’ll get pages of matches. You can scan through to find guys that did what you’re wanting to do, then tag them by adding @insertmembername and they’ll get notified to come answer your question. Otherwise, we get so many cat theft threads, many of us don’t open them any more, so you might never reach your intended audience, the people that are handy and will know what you need, dimension wise, and be most likely to help you out.

I'm headed to Houston/Galveston for a few days..... I hope the Cat Security plates hold up to keeping my cats on!

At least they are trying to take away the market unlike the weak laws in other states. In one state they made it a felony. Do they really think the criminals care.

 

Other states should be like Nevada, here they shot them.

The local deputy shot a thief trying to steal a catalytic converter at 4am. in Carson City Nevada.
After the police got him out of the hospital he was charged with.: assault with a deadly weapon, 3rd degree arson, 4th degree arson and obstructing a public officer.
I would say no more catalytic converters for him, he should get about 4 years in prison.

Not like California where 12 thief's where caught with catalytic converter last month, 10 walk on bail the same day.

 

OP if you are in Houston I have a wooden template laying in my garage. You are welcome to it. I am south of Houston. Will seriously take you a few hours to cut it out and a bit more to mount it.

Mine held up for 3 days in Houston. In Corpus, a truck next to mine at a movie theater got hit. Mine were left alone.

That's great to hear but sucks for the guy next to you. I wonder what the crooks are going to do when 80% of the vehicles have some sort of deterrence. I hope they move on to other stuff, but I fear they may come better prepared....

 

Ohio has a bill that they’ll be voting on that’ll make it a fourth-degree felony, and the only way to scrap them would be on the vehicle when the vehicle is scrapped. At least it’s some thing more than we have now.

 

The only solution to this mess is to take the market away.

Texas is about to start introducing legislation as well. LEOs are dying from this BS now so yeah sh1t is gettin real

 

Good luck with that. That kind of law may prevent the meth heads and the unscrupulous scrap yard side of it, but it will do nothing to deter the organized element that ships containers full of stolen cats overseas. Those laws won't touch them.

A redesign of the cats without precious metals or deregulation that stops requiring them in the first place are the only things that will truly curb the thefts on unprotected vehicles.

 

I gotta buddy living in Guatemala who sent me pics of a public warehouse that flat out displays catalytic converter purchases en masse on their building.

 

Exactly, and the laws that say cats can't be scrapped without the vehicle aren't going to have any impact on that.

 

Gee, you know they really should have laws punishing thieves that steal.

More like judges who hold people accountable.

 

Need to get the DA's to charge crimes. Then the judge can do their thing.
