Does the plastic vent that goes up front look pretty similar to the oem one on the drivers side?

I plan on getting this $189 K&N resonator delete and filter combo. The Tundras box is built to pull cold air in already so why pay an extra $100 for that. TU1366.jpg

That’s why I went with the Stillen, yea the Tundra is technically a CAI, but the Stillen pulls it through 2 different spots, including the front air intake tube...that’s how it keeps temps down better than any other intake for the Tundra...worth it?...I guess that’s up to the buyer, but I love mine!

AFE also makes a kit similar to that. I think the AFE filter has been proven to provide "more power" than KN by DAP tuning.

I had one of these too, combined with the TRD Airflow Accelerator. I think it gave me a little more engine noise over stock, not much else.

Replaced that with the Stillen and I like the Stillen way more.

I agree with the additional air inlet power increase being felt having done a DIY SABM recently for $30 ;)

Some may not like the idea of a 3in hole in the fender well but take your time and you won't notice it while looking OEM'ish. I had nothing but gains but I'm also full bolt on so it helped compliment my combo. Similar design to Stillen with marginal temp variances between the two.

I opted for the version that does not have the block off valve, I’ve driven through heavy downpours and dirt roads with my boat… No issues whatsoever with anything getting in there… They actually addressed this in their videos on their website, I’ve never seen anyone have that problem, but they make that block off valve if you are worried about driving in terrible weather or really dirty roads...well thought out design!

Thanks for the review of this real CAI.

Air density is what we are looking for with low air intake temps. Recently I started monitoring all parameters on my truck with the Edge CTS3 and changed my opinion on CAI’s if they are sealed and actually pull air from outside the engine compartment/fender well. Most CAI do nothing but make a bigger “box” or even worse...a partially sealed thin walled metal shield.

My pre cold air intake inlet temperature was 30+* over ambient. At 95 degrees F ambient, that’s getting hot (125+ *F) is like driving through Death Valley in July.
I chose to install a Banks Ram Air intake on my truck. With all conditions the same, I now run 7-9*F over ambient temperature, and I do believe I can improve this even more to 4-5*F with a little modification with fiberglass.

Did you disconnect the negative battery terminal when you were installing the Stillen cai , that way the truck can relearn the new parameters per Stillen Cai? I was curious if it was mentioned in the instructions at all..

No sir, that wasn’t mentioned and I didn’t disconnect it...the only thing that’s mentioned is to make sure you don’t start truck with MAF sensor disconnected and until the install is fully complete...hope that helps!

Where did you order from? Redline360 has them for $344 right now. Can they be found any cheaper? Im thinking of getting the dry filter version. Ive never been a fan of the K&N oiled filters. Project Farm on Youtube did a video on air filters, and K&N didnt do the best at flitering out particulates. Right now I have the AFE dry drop in filter and its fine but I havent noticed much in the performance department.

Got mine through Vivid Racing, paid right around that price (can’t remember exactly what final cost was)... I remember shopping around several different sites and ended up getting a 10% off deal through them

Just curious here, but doesn't Toyota run a coolant line to the throttle body to warm the incoming air. I get trying to get cooler denser air into the engine, but doesn't this defeat the purpose if that cool air is getting warmed at the throttle body?

Not trying to belittle anyone's decision just thinking out loud.

The air is moving through the TB so fast convection doesn’t happen. The key here is what temp the MAF is reading prior to the throttle body. Timing and fuel tables are adjusted according to what the maf is reading. The cooler the air is going past the maf, the more timing and fuel the ecu will provide since it knows cooler air means more oxygen so it must provide more fuel and it can increase timing for more power. This adjustment is done before any air enters the motor.

This is why you want as close to ambient air temp as you can get coming into the motor.

OBD Fusion for iOS will monitor air intake temps. Im guessing thats the same as ambient air temp?

Ambient air temp is what the actual temperature is outside the vehicle.

AIT, or air intake temperature is the temperature of the incoming air flowing past the MAF sensor.

The greater the differential, ie ambient vs iat, the more the ecu will pull timing.
