B-still buying but a little concerned about the issues.

Just put a deposit on a MGM 4x4 Crew Limited. Due in "supposedly" end of March early April.
Hope sellers remorse of my 21' doesn't kick in ....

    i'm an A.. a wee concerned about the issues i'm reading about but i'm told that they're a non-issue..

I'm shocked to read about the cabin size, though.. I'm moving from a 4Runner, and have worked with prior years Tundras extensively.. they've all been considerably larger than my interior and i've never felt cramped (6'5" 250lbs)

I agree. After driving a Taco for 12 years the 2022 Tundra can size is huge. I was very comfortable in the front and back and I am 6 foot.

The way I see it is that Tundra is very important to Toyota in North America. The 3rd gen is already on paper NOT a world beater after all in terms of features, power, speed, payload. Now if reliability is also in question, Toyota might as well quit making and selling trucks in the US.

I'll be monitoring the situation for the next 3-6 months. If we continue seeing trucks built in Q1 and Q2 of 2022 having the same issue, then I'm afraid Toyota has decided to just let it be a flop and won't do a costly fix, which could potentially happen as in a decade we'll be driving EV trucks anyway why spend 100s millions on ICE turbo engine

Good point! I am definitely skeptical of the turbo longevity. I could just keep my '19 5.7, skip the turbo gen, and go right for the EV.

Will they have a loaner for you to drive when they need to work on it?

Is the 2nd Gen a world beater in any of the above you mentioned?

I have little doubt Toyota will take care of the issues and reliability will still be there.

When the 2007 was released it was the big dick in the locker room of 1/2 ton trucks. Most power, most torque, most gears in the transmission, biggest rear axle, biggest brakes. Not by a small margin either, it blew the others out of the water.

The 2022 is nothing but a tepid mid-pack offering at a far above average price. Reliability isn’t looking too great right now either.

that is true, I remember when the 5.7 tundra was compared to the 5.4 ford at the beginning, I mean it DESTROYED it

I was holding out for the iForceMax expecting more power and a significant increase in fuel efficiency. Figured a TRD Pro would be cool to own so was hoping to pick one up next year.

At this point I am not impressed enough with the truck to part with what will be nearly $70K.

For starters the testing numbers Car and Driver obtained with the TRD Pro indicate a bunch of power missing up top past 70 MPH which is nearly a deal breaker for me.

Now we hear rumors that fuel efficiency is going to be essentially the same as the base engine, or so close it makes no difference. Why pay more money for nearly identical performance to the base truck?

Then we learn the TRD Pro will be very limited production. Why? If customers want more TRD Pro’s make more of them Toyota, the truck is not that special get over yourselves. The new truck is very light on content compared to your competitors.

Lastly we have the early roll out problems and Toyota’s clumsy shitty response to early owners problems. Basically we got your money, here’s a shitty loaner, we’ll get around to fixing your broken ass new truck when we feel like it won’t inconvenience us too much.

So considering that: looking at $70,000 USD in a bank account and a new Tundra, I’d rather just have the $70,000 USD…. even considering inflation.

If the reported MPG of the hybrid turns out to be true, it will be a significant disappointment. Frankly, I’ve been good with the delay on mine so far hoping that the turbo issue is being addressed.

    Exactly my thought @RavingOx.
My build date just slipped again today from 1/26, to 2/2, and now 2/8.
More time for them to fix what's wrong.
Incidentally, I will love the back seat storage on the non-hybrid, which of course is replaced with the battery on the hybrid.

    Sure.

You are also aware that Toyota has turbochargers in inventory because trucks are still being produced. Toyota is CHOOSING to allocate those parts for production instead of warranty repairs for existing Tundra’s that have been purchased.

Exactly the same thing GM has been doing with leaking rear windows since 2019. There's no point buying a different truck if that's your complaint about Toyota because no major auto manufacturer is going to do anything different.

Your sales person can easily give you your build date.
BTW, there are no "custom" or "build to order" Tundras. They are dealer allocated.

    Gotta mention....
2004 Titan was the first Japanese branded truck to mop-up the big 3 half tons. Big time.
The 2007 Tundra put the wax on....

I can buy a comparable truck trim level for trim level from the Big 3 for a lot less money than a Toyota. Evidently I’ll be treated the same, and reliability (or lack thereof) so far looks about equal.

I love my Tundra but I’m having a harder and harder time accepting new Tundra cost vs features and performance vs the Big 3.

Once I factor in the pretty aggressive discount I get on any of the Big 3 trucks (x plan vendor discount), it’s not an exaggeration to tell you I can get more truck for the money. I could possibly build out a nicely equipped 3/4 ton diesel for what a TRD Pro will likely cost.

    No disrespect…

But it sounds like ya need to order a 3/4 ton with your 70k from one of the big 3 and stop waisting your time complaining about the 22 tundra on here. Or just keep driving your 07. You have quiet a bit of time vested on here for a vehicle you apparently don’t want or approve of…

Just my assessment of your past/current post on the 22.

    Have a good evening…

Then quit your bitching and buy one.
Given you’re still in an ‘07, I’d say 15 model years later, you deserve a treat.

Problem is I’m turning into my late father. He would drive a vehicle until it strait up wouldn’t go anymore. It didn’t matter that he could buy whatever he wanted, he was just super cheap.

I always swore I wouldn’t do that… yet here I am being a tight ass.
