Steering wheel controls quality?

Anyone notice their steering wheel controls becoming loose and feeling like cheap squeaking plastic?
I have a few different Toyotas and all those vehicles have nice solid feeling steering control buttons and aesthetically fluid designs.
As the miles add on to my 23 Tundra, it’s getting aggravating that every time I press on a volume button or set the cruise the buttons are creaking and the panels feel like they are going to come out.
Love everything else about the truck, so minor gripe but, wondering if maybe I am pressing too hard or using them too much. LOL

love the TRD pro steering wheel. I switched to it on my TRD Offroad limited. No creaking or panels coming out lol what trim are you running?

 

I feel the same way, for me tho it’s just the bezel surrounding the buttons that is is loose and creaky, the buttons themselves are fine….my 2016 subaru wrx steering wheel bezel/buttons feels of higher quality for sure.

 

Besides all of the other issues with wind noise, differential whine, these cheap plasticky buttons are the best thing since sliced bread!

 

I agree, the steering wheel radio control buttons feel like cheap crap, with a sort of mushy operation and soft click. I am a station changer and almost constantly scrolling through my SXM favorites, so I honestly wonder how long that cheap button is going to last. I don't understand why they didn't use buttons like on my 2nd Gen Tacoma. Those were really solid.

 

I actually prefer the steering wheel controls over my previous truck (‘18 Limited Crewmax). They seem laid out better, and I haven’t had an issue with them feeling cheap. BTW, I am not one of the gen 4 owners who blindly defend this truck no matter the issue.

 

agree, more functions on the steering wheel than having to go thru the head unit in our 18 platinum and better layout. just had to re-learn buttons functions on the 23 vs the 18 as some of them changed.

on our 18, the memory seats buttons went 2-1-set

on the 23 is 1-2-set

 

I too question the durability of these plastics. I’ve already had two window seals replaced, and I’ve only had the truck for about two months. Hopefully Toyota spent the money on quality mechanical parts…

 

Did the window seal replacements actually helped?

 

Not really because both replacement seals were deformed out of the package as well. Seems like the quality of the seals is just garbage.

 

I had my window seals replaced 4 times. On the second time, it did help about 70% to reduce the wind noise and eliminate the whistling, but then they touched it for some reason during an oil change and it start making noise again. I had them re do the seals twice again and on 4th replacement it's about 70% quiet once again... I believe it's the tech who installs it is the issue... It sounds simple but maybe there's a special touch

 

A good tech is hard to find! The last time they replaced mine, they smeared grease all over the damn place. I don’t know if I have the patience to take the truck in 2 more times. Isn’t it unbelievable that we’re having to deal with window seals with these trucks? Imagine what else will be falling apart 5 years from now.

 

Try taking it to another dealer?
Hopefully window seals is the worst that can happen...

I can't see myself suffering with all the wind noise and differential noise my truck makes on the highway, I'll probably be trading it when 2025 comes out

It's pathetic that you have 2024 and still have wind issues...

 

I avoid using the steering wheel controls because of how cheap they feel and dont want ugly wear marks

 

Yeah, it really is pathetic. If I didn’t tow so often, I would probably consider going 4Runner. It’s a dog, but at least it’ll last.
