Labor & time. Labor is bad enough. Making time to do it...very hard. Did you have to pay a core charge too?. I'm wondering if they do a rebuild when an order is placed? Maybe the reason for the 24 to 72 to ship it. At least you are saving some serious money compared to a new rack. By the way , I double checked my fluid levels this morning.

Open it up and look inside. Don't go off of the line on the outside. It fooled me. But then again i had no power steering at all.
Yes $150 core charge. $18 return shipping label to get the $150 back.

I actually take off the cap and check the level. The plastic canister is still fairly clean after 9 years. The fluid is clearly visible. I tend to keep the under hood area pretty clean. Probably a little too anal. Just a long time habit that I've had.

Just running into this problem myself. It's July and my bumber to bumper expired in Feb. Dealership wants over $4k to replace despite still being within my 7 year 100,000 powertrain warranty.

Anyone have any updates on using the Rack Doctor unit and the install or ways I can get the dealership to replace this unit under the warranty?

I would really push this for warranty unless you have a lift higher than a TRD Pro. Toyota tried that shit on me with my front diff with 6112 on the bottom setting (.75" lift). I argued and proved my point with the TRD Pro factory lift.

I would purchase the rack, have a friend come over, have pizza, beer, whiskey, hydraulic wrenches (good ones), and some damn good music playing. Done deal.

I would have drove up and helped @csuviper out had I seen this. I was on vacation down in SW Colorado, but wasn't doing anything but roasting my ass off in 98*F temps at 9k' of elevation.

I have a 3/1 leveling kit with diff drop on and that's it outside of tires and wheels. Pushing back on the warranty bit so we'll see what happens. Looks like it's about $400 for the rack from Rack Doctor. What's the process to do this yourself in your driveway?

You can try, but don't be surprised if you get a handful of NO.

The book has some BS of pulling the motor from what I heard. That isn't happening.

If I remember correctly, you need to drop the oil filter assembly and you have good access.

@Nor7 has about every procedure from steering racks to properly humping a woman, so maybe he will share. However, since I'm asking, probably not. Might wanna PM him.

Fairly common in the 2010-2012 range. Heard that the older steering racks were better and they corrected the issue in 13 or 14?

    You will be fine.

TRD Pro is 2” from the factory.

no you good. the shop that did his install fucked up. They cranked it up to the max, he was over 3.5" on a FOX coil over and his CV angles were bad. He wanted to be cheap with a cheap shop..he got a cheap job..and more...

Your profile says you have a 2019. Warranty won't cover it?

    Edit-didn't realize it was a 2016 post.
