So I have a 2000 Tundra 4wheel drive and here recently when I steer somewhere in my front end will pop n kinda jerk real bad n I had it apart n checked the CV joint and it’s good no play and my wheel bearing and ball joints are good as well as my steering arms I have no play what so ever but I’m curious if anyone has had this problem and if a bad rack could potentially cause this issue

Low speeds, high speeds? Left, right? How tight of a turn? Need more info, please.

EDIT: Is it different than the feeling of turning a pavement when 4WD is engaged? Just want to rule that out first.

This was my first thought. "Hope this person realizes you can't have the truck in 4WD while driving on paved surfaces..."

That would be really, really unfortunate. Or if it was stuck in 4WD somehow.

"shouldn't" I guess would have been the better choice word. I'm sure shifty is well aware that you "can" as I would bet that he tests the operation of his on at regular intervals.

The one time I did it totally by accident (was wet out, pulled into dry, covered asphalt parking lot, POP POP POP!)

Shit binds or wheels skip if they can, but on asphalt… they stick. I caught it by the 2nd really aggressive pop. It’s not just difficult to steer, things bind up.

So I’m in 2 wheel drive and it’s not stuck in 4 wheel but it’s at low and high speeds it’s both when I turn to driver and passenger and it’s don’t have to be turned very tight at all and now it’s also kinda clunking when i go straight and out it in reverse and drive so now I’m thinking it’s not a steering issue but it was acting like it was before

It could possibly be that I’m gonna check em n grease em and also check the transmission bushing and bolts n all that jazz to see if there could be an issue there

It helps so much to read through THIS thread, @shifty` put a lot of time and effort into creating a place where we can have as much info as possible without doing so many searches.
