    Don’t do it

you’ll be kicking yourself every time a sr5 blows you off the line and reminds you of how little torque you have

couple years down the road you’ll be paying $2k for a sr5 power tune anyway may as well break bread now and have it programmed by the factory instead of Cletus down at the tune shop

Looks identical to my 2022 SR5 TRD OR. Except I have the boulder (let's just call it gray) color seats.

And everybody that bought the 4.6 instead of the 5.7 regretted it

toyo will probably phase out the sr like they did the 4.6 in a couple years anyway

    That's kind of my fear.

Although I wonder if the difference between the 4.6 & 5.7 is more noticable than the difference in the 22 SR & SR5 motors

The SRs used to have serious differences on the interior as well. Now, Toyota seems to be blending the two trims.

I recall the older SRs of last gen had:
    • Front bench seat with the flip down center seat that doubled as your "console" vs the front buckets of the SR5
    • Column shifter vs console shifter
    • Keyed ignition vs. Push button (no option for push button)
    • No intermittent wipers
Nowadays, it seems the two trims (at least on the inside) are pretty similar.

I agree...they're likely doing this with the intention of dropping the "work" truck offering. That's probably not their core market anyways and they likely realize that. When I think of "work" truck, I think of white fleet trucks like basic Fords or Chevys that are RWD only with manual windows, etc.

If the Canadian build and price is accurate, SR5 is just an SR trim level/package. o_O

The SR had the same seats as the SR5 in the last version of the truck but they also had the stupid center section where the console would be and the column shifter.

The wipers were a $128 mod

None of the trucks offered push button start until just the last few years.

And my SR has the 5.7,4wd,power licks and windows and is loaded enough for me!

I know it seems a stretch to you but a few of us do work out of our trucks.

That's a big assumption for someone who doesn't know me. I've worked out of my truck plenty of times. Am I a construction contractor or a tradesman? Nope. Did I grow up on a farm and still live on acreage that I work? Yup.

Let's face it...Toyota doesn't focus on nor do they capture a large portion of the "work" truck market. If they were serious about it, they would offer a wide array of drivetrains and even a dually axle option. There's a reason you don't see often fleets of Toyotas in yards of utility companies or government agencies. 90% of that market is owned by Ford and Chevy. Like it or not, Toyota has become more of a "lifestyle" truck brand compared to the days of the old T100 to now. Take that up with Toyota and let them know your frustration about the death of the work truck instead of making assumptions about me. Cheers!

Just responding to what you put out here.

I wish Toyota gave a shit but that ship seems to have sailed years ago.

No worries. I probably read too much attitude into it that you didn't mean anyways. That's on me.

And, I agree. I wish Toyota cared more for putting out a work truck. My grandfather had an old 1987 4th Gen Toyo Pickup that he would beat the piss out of on the farm. We'd overload that thing with hay to the point it just sat on the axles day in and day out. Manual transmission and everything with vinyl floors & seats. It seems those days are long gone for Toyota.

Yeah they killed it for me when they dropped the Regular Cab Long Beds anyway,I dont see myself buying another Tundra for that alone really.

But all I was really saying is that the SR is not too far from an SR5 if you get the right SR like I did somehow.
Now I just need to keep it going Forever!

People aren’t going to pay that much for that truck are they? That’s the same price you can get 6.7 Cummins new for

$48k USD = ~$60k CAD. Tundra is still cheaper as long as you stick with SR or SR5.

my Tacoma had it one the sides, not the pillar. It’s a better look, but I’m afraid to make the “peel”. And you’re right lol, bandit all the way. Once you see it…

So seems the the real difference in SR vs SR5 is
    1.)engine detune
    2.)lacks CM with a 6.5ft bed option
3.)0 packages except Tow hitch and brake controller
    *4.) tow rating SR 8,300 vs 11,160 SR5
*5.) SR has No 32 Gallon Tank option only comes in 22 Gallon Tank

now the question is does it have the supporting wiring for any of those options or did Toyota go bare bones on wires on the SR, unlike the SR5 the wiring harnesses should be pre existing and just need the modules/controls installed.

when I was going through the build outs by the time I was satisfied with the SR5 I was in Limited territory and still really want the panoramic roof so I built a limited and ended up in the Plat/1794 territory. I ultimately decided I'll probably do a SR package with accessories and the money I save on it spend on mods and build something of my own. Maybe down the road I might consider going up the grades to something top tier but for now my current plans are just a SR.

I think another issue will be availability, I don't get the feeling they're making many of these.

Currently not in production in my area according to dealer.

What I truly can not wrap my brain around though is why exactly the SR seem to be derated in this Gen. somehow?

What possible reasoning could there be as it seems that it would add cost to the build for them to make a different model version just for the few of these they will likely ever make or sell?

Best answer I have found from another thread:

If I had to guess, Toyota might be putting a smaller axle or maybe some other different parts in the SR to save weight and costs. Just like they did with the 4.6L V8 in the previous gen, which had a different transmission and rear axle than the 5.7L. And because of that they have had to reduce the power ratings since they don't actually have a different engine to put in it. It's kinda like how Ford puts in the smaller axle, lighter frame and lighter springs into the 2.7L Ecoboost trucks vs the 3.5/5.0 trucks. Otherwise, why would the tow rating be reduced? 348 hp is way more than enough to tow 12000 lbs. We have ram Ecodiesels and Ford Powerstrokes making 250-260 hp with 12000 lb tow rating.

I have an appointment for the Lux XT and Interior application on the 3rd. I'm going to ask them their thought about removal on the A pillar. I think it would look better with paint. I'll report back
