Does anybody know what the circular object behind the air intake box is? It has the name Denso on it. Apparently a squirrel chewed the wire that connects from the engine harness to this mysterious object. I have no dashboard lights going off, and truck runs fine. This is a brand new engine harness. Just got the truck back Friday night after 2 weeks of not having it. Previously the squirrels had caused $9k worth of damage. Good thing for vehicle insurance. Squirrels chewed up 8-10 wires of the engine harness. Tour to hell the insulated engine / hood cover.

First 3 pictures are from today. Last couple of pictures are from 2 weeks ago

That’s what I thought as well. Horn works perfectly fine.

Is it 4WD? Is so, does it work? Mine is 10 years older but a squirrel chewed a green wire on the passenger side fender well and it was for the ADD.

    Squirrels are very destructive.

    Edit:
I looked up the number on that Denso thing (ND-012). Comes up as a low horn

Thanks for the information. Security horn it is. Never knew there were 2 horns (regular & security horn). Learn something new every day. Appreciate the help. Now I just have to splice the wires together.

@PKFan, thanks. I will order this today. I already have installed an ultrasonic deterrent that plugs into the battery, moth balls and cut up Irish Spring soap in bags. What's one more smell / taste added. Can't be too careful I guess, especially after already paying $9k (insurance paid - but sure my payments will go up).

Honestly, I think the snap traps did the most good, as they seemed to eliminate the problem squirrels. But I still do the bitter apple occasionally just in case. I also did an ultrasonic unit, as I more recently have had mice or rats messing with the insulation around the manifold and that seems to be doing the trick.
On a side note, I'm originally from southern NH myself.

If you use snap traps and get about 5-6, you could make a nice batch of squirrel potpie.

I started using peppermint oil in my boat for winter storage and I spray under the hood of my truck every 3 months or so. I soaked a few dryer sheets in peppermint oil and shoved them into the trailer frame on my snowmobile trailer because I had to redo the wiring. knock on wood*, its worked so far.

I know there are posts on here about where to put some wire mesh under the windshield lower cowl to keep critters from being able to get to the top of the cabin airbox. I haven't done that yet but i keep thinking about it. There are also some posts about the engine wiring harness getting chewed up. I'm not so sure soy based wire insulation was as great an idea as someone thought it was.

Had this happen on my previous truck two years ago. Chewed through a wire on harness to a fuel injector. Got a notice on my Ford Pass app that cylinder one was misfiring, looked and noticed the chewed wire and a bunch of foam insulation on top of the engine. I had some pepper spay and fluid film sitting around so used that and never had another problem. Sprayed the fluid film where on places they would need to climb to get up into the engine bay and some pepper spray on the harness and chewed up foam. I figured some fluid film on the harness wouldn't hurt either. Never had another issue. I'm going to do that now as preventive. Once they get that oil on their feet or get a whiff of the pepper spray they should stay clear
