I’m curious to know but any 2022 Tundra’s owners had their beds sprayed with bedliner yet? If so, i’d like to hear your feedback and so forth..

Mine came with it, had no choice. Not a fan at all. I use the rubber bed mat, and I loved having the option to take it out in my ‘18 Tacoma and slide stuff around back there. Can’t slide on the liner, and it would scratch anything valuable.

1000% agree. Is it possible to order a new plastic bedliner and remove the one with sprayed on B.S. and replace? I almost think it’s worth it.

I didn’t even think about that until I saw someone else mention it in another post - you would still have it on the side walls, which wouldn’t be huge deal. Will have to check with Roman on the OEM thread to see if the part exists and what the price is! I’d be tempted to do it if it was only a few hundred dollars and relatively easy DIY. I should’ve mentioned – the one pro I can think of is that it does look really cool :)

But yeah – to also expand on my feedback – I can’t tell you how many times I would be packing for a trip and slide bins from the front to back with the tailgate down when I had the composite liner. Now with the spray liner my only option is forced exercise as I would have to jump in and out of the bed to organize stuff… or pay $350 for an OEM bed step that would take three months to get delivered

or carry a milk crate around

Thankfully mine came with the plastic bed shell. Ordinarily I hate them because they're notorious for rust underneath, but hey - not an issue with a composite bed.

Spray in seems by and far to be a hard no go. Not unless it gets some really, really good surface scuffing prior to spraying. The ones coming from Toyota that are all peeling are completely glossy underneath. They're not prepping them at all and getting no adhesion.

Why on earth do you need a spray in liner on a composite bed? Spray in liners were invented to fix the rusting underneath composite bedliners

It really doesn't stick to the bed, it can be peeled off... There is other posts where an individual had warranty work on his and the linex rep basically peeled it off. (may not be linex rep, don't recall for sure)

Mine peels off at the corners easily...BUT, who knows if that continues throughout the bed. Let thing I want to do it have a half-peeled bed liner where some parts are fully bonded to the composite.

If anyone has peeled off their entire lining that would be music to my ears.

The one thing we can all agree on is that no one likes this new OEM spray on liner. I didn't ask for it even though I obviously paid for it, but I would pay further to get it removed. I've already put unnecessary wear and tear on objects I've put on the bed that'll add up quickly. I'm sick of having moving blankets in my bed but that's the reality.

I happened to look at mine yesterday, and one of the edges was peeling on the tailgate. It definitely looked more like a sticker than a precise tape job with spray as someone mentioned earlier. It was a super hot day here (90+ degrees), and I was able to completely peel the liner off the tailgate in under 5 minutes, it’s almost like a thick rubberized skateboard grip tape. Didn’t come off in one full piece, but it was pretty damn close with only a couple small pieces that were stuck harder than others. It seems like it would be a really hard job for the whole bed though, as there are lots of nooks and crannies, and there is no separation between the walls and the floor as far as I could tell – if there was, I would love to have just ripped it off the entire floor. I’m tempted to bring this up to the dealership, and tell him that the peeling gives me no confidence that it will stay put, and maybe see if they will just remove it all together…

I will say that I moved some boxes in there later that day, and the smooth transition from tailgate to the rubber bed mat was oh so satisfying :)

I can see a judge forcing toyota being told to send refund checks over these liners. They could just as easily built texture into the molding right?

Toyota should pay for removing a peeling bed liner. That's a lot of labor and I'm sure it's pretty costly compared to the original charge to add the liner.

The composite bed in my old Tacoma’s was damn near indestructible. I had the Toyota rubber bed mat that helped to keep things from sliding around. Absolutely no reason to waste money on a spray in bed liner that wont adhere to plastic no matter how hard you try. Toyota needs to just stop taking advantage of their customers and stop offering this as an option.

They stopped offering it at my dealer from what I can tell when I check their inventory - I will definitely be using that fact in my defense!!

@CarlsSenior303 It was really easy for me to get this through a warranty claim. Its a known problem and mine is currently being replaced by Line-X which should be done tomorrow.

Interesting - how long did you wait before making the warranty claim?

I was actually in for a recall and had mentioned it to my service writer. They took a few pictures, sent it to Toyota corporate, and I got the approval. Took a few weeks for the claim to go through, but it was pretty painless.

Please let us know how the Line-X texture compares. Would be nice if it’s not the same diamond abrasive feel as the original.

Good to know, sounds like you went back through the dealer – that’s my plan as well. Quite frankly I don’t even want Line-X - i’m wondering if they will peel all yours off and then reapply? Or just spray over (I doubt it but wouldn’t be surprised)? I am going to just ask for the regular stock option back, we’ll see what they say

Its a complete removal and respray. I wouldn't have allowed them to spray over the existing peeling liner. They started last week on the removal, but their lead sprayer had a baby so I go back in tomorrow to get in finished. My bed liner is half removed at the moment haha.

Do nothing. Add bed mat if needed.
