My father in law has been helping me with some construction projects around the house. He drove his 2015 F150 over, and since I am currently truckless, we took it to Home Depot twice for all our materials. He has 60k trouble-free miles on it, uses it on his son’s ranch in Kansas all the time, and it looks as new as the day he got it.

It’s the 3.5 EcoBoost with the huge back seat and 5.5 ft bed. Basically Ford’s version of the CrewMax. Except his 4wd came with a rear locker. That thing has gobs of power and gets mid 20s MPG on the highway. He’s had a couple of recalls that Ford has taken care of for him no questions asked.

I fully expected to hate it, I thought it would be full of rattles, noisy, and riddled with problems. I didn’t expect it to be smooth and powerful and completely quiet. Definitely didn’t expect everything to work correctly. Definitely made me think about getting one to hold me over until Toyota releases a turbo’d hybrid v6 Tundra.

Can’t believe I’m saying that I really liked a FORD. WHATS HAPPENING?! Haha

They get bagged on a lot, and somewhat deservedly, but I owned a 2000 XLT for 8 years w/o any issues. That was before all the tech stuff came out that they have on them now tho, so I can't speak for a modern one.

Buddy of mine has an 18. The newness has worn off. He still likes the truck but hates the start/stop, the aluminum easily dented hood, electronic issues, etc.

He likes the power and the warranty. He said the mileage is a tad off. Without the warranty he would have had a stroke by now. Lol

You could always get one and keep us updated. My 16 CrewMax is paid off. With Toyota reliability my ass is going nowhere.

My FIL has 110K miles on his ‘12 F150 EB. Hasn’t done anything major to it. Couple recalls. Rides amazing for a truck. He hates riding in my 1T. Lol

My coworker has a 17 double cab cause he wants a 6.5' bed. It's super quiet, the newer ecotech too. The only thing I find I don't really like is there stupid start and stop. I ride with him when we do lunch runs to Costco, Lowe's or HD.

He thinks the tundra is too loud and always talks about his mpg.

I'm glad people are content with their choices and to each their own.
I'd probably challenge the actual mileage claims as my buddy has to throttle it hard enough to spool the turbos.
    His is quiet
Mine is loud and the fan sounds like a huey lol

Not sure about that. I never Owned a Ford but my coworker owns 5, some new , some old. They haven't left him stranded yet. To Ford explorer, one almost 200,000k and he's just done maintenance himself and owned this one 18 years now. It's now his sons.

I guess there's a percentage of failure if you compare 2% @ 600,000 trucks sold them you'll see more numbers like 12,000 trucks. If compare to tundras 100,000 +/- sales annually that number now only shows 2000 trucks with issues.

12,000 to 2,000 , the former does seem a lot bigger but it's the same percentage.

With the petty issues I'm seeing with my tundra, it's no different than my Chevy. Smh

Maybe. Maybe not. All I know is $6000 in warranty work + $1200 out of pocket on a 1 year old truck in the space of 18 months and 30,000kms, garbage treatment by 3 separate dealerships and Ford corporate made sure I'll never own another Ford. Due to that, 6 rig welders I know didn't stick with Ford 1 ton trucks when their leases came up and around a dozen family members will never buy Ford again either. The company I used to work for had so many issues with the Fords in their fleet they dropped them for good.

Your mileage may vary of course.

Holy shit....did I just post a non-profanity laden rant about Ford?

I drove a 2017 F150 with the V8 for a few days while my 2016 Tacoma was in for warranty work. I know it's an apples/oranges thing, but that F150 utterly destroyed the Tacoma in every way. Now stacking it up against my Tundra is a different story, but I will say the F150 had a nice interior, even though the rental I was in was a more stripped down trim level. I love my Tundra and it's been damn near perfect, but for those few days I drove that V8 F150, I was a Ford fan.

If you read Ford forums on actual MPG it isn't even close to advertised.

I sold an 01 XLT stepside with 208,000 miles when I bought my Tundra. Ford screwed that truck together well. Not a squeak or rattle and it was quiet on the highway. I really wanted to keep it but with Michigan insurance rates having an extra vehicle that won’t be used much is too expensive. No clue how good the newer ones are.

Your insurance premiums will be a lot better. One of my buddies has a small fleet of F150’s and the steel body trucks are half the cost on insurance as the aluminum body trucks. Something to consider.

I've driven both Ford and Toyota my entire adult life. I've always had Ford work vehicles but I put my family in a Toyota. My 16 year old Sequoia drives like the day it rolled off the lot and I have complete confidence in Toyota's drive trains. I typically trade in the Fords before 100k. 2 of them didn't make it that far without critical failures, others have had minimal issues. IMO both are great trucks but I'd choose a 5.0 over an EB everyday. In 2015 I went to buy a new truck and it was going to be an F150 or a Tundra. I had a few requirements: leather, 4x4 and 4 doors. Ford wouldn't get me leather in the Ford without buying a Lariat...at 60k. I test drove it anyway and the thing sounded like a v6 accord with a rice burner exhaust. That was it, went to Toyota and they had my Tundra arranged the way I wanted and sent from the factory. Great service and great vehicles.

I’ve had every truck on the market and I even have the new ford ranger, but I’ve never had a truck that compared with my tundra! I’m 57, and have gone through many of them, The Tundra is the Top of the line for me!

I'm on board with Toyota being more reliable in general, but it definitely gets blown way out of proportion. My 2018 Tundra had leaking cam towers before 8,500 miles and ended up being bought back by the dealer due to a shoddy repair. Now my 2010 is leaking on one side and weeping on the other. I'm not gonna do anything about it this time until I start losing a significant amount of oil, but it's a BS problem. I can also tell you I'd never buy another brand new Tundra with the 3UR-FE.

I still don't think I'd buy a Big 3, but with the way people buy trucks these days trading in every 3-5 years for the new model and never really being out of warranty, who really cares that much about reliability? I see tons of guys on this site saying they traded in their 2014 or 2015 for a new 2018 or 2019. Those of us planning on keeping our trucks for the long haul are probably smarter buying something reliable like a Tundra, but again, I think the reliability advantage is a bit over-exaggerated.

    /end rant

perfect, thanks! helps that almost every piece of suspension is brand new and the 2018 headlights make it nearly indistinguishable from a new Sequoia.
