I don't see any emails. :notsure:

I still plan on going but there's a chance I might have to back out -- I'll find out Monday. I'm having a few issues with my transmission and driver's side LCA.

First, the transmission is heating up way too quick offroad. Yea, it's working harder because of the 40s but it only started happening in my last few trail runs and I've had the new tires for almost a month before it started. Engine temps are reading not super abnormal but they go to ~225 offroad and way too soon. I can probably remedy this with a set of pusher electric fans up front but there's no way I can get that done in the next week. Apart from that, I'll probably drain/fill the tranny fluids, too.

Second, the driver's side LCA won't hold its alignment. The camber keeps going out. I'm thinking I might need to replace the alignment bolts altogether.

Well PM me your cell so you can keep me updated.

I doubt electric fans are going to help you. The radiators can only radiate so much heat, airflow actually has very little to do with it. The stock fan provides as much airflow as is needed, more will not help.

As for the LCA, you sure its not your spindle bending? The larger tires will only put even more force on a part that you already proved is kinda weak. If its not the spindle, do you have cam tab gussets? Those are a necessary mod if you off road. The stock tabs bend easy. I am not sure how new bolts will help. unless the current ones are stripped. Just make sure they are torqued properly.

cam tab gussets are not needed with the BDS kit, they have super beefy cam tabs on the drop bracket. Id bet its the spindles.. the cam bolts dont make a diff either, you may have messed up the LCA bushing thats possible if you need a LCA @Spvrtan i have mine I can sell you one.

Also most likely the issue you are dealing with on the trans is simple you are overworking with out the proper final drive ratio so its heating up, and you have probably boiled the trans fluid, which can happen with ATF fluid and once you over heat it, it will continue to overheat, the fluid starts to break down and looses its ability to cool and lude, also your factory trans cooler isnt designed to keep up with the excess heat you are putting into it with the parasitic drag caused by those wheels and tires. So you can either regear, or try and slap fixes on all these problems cropping up. And not to mention they will only get worse from here. Once one thing goes its going to be a cascading waterfall of issues. Those 40's are your problem, go back to 37's or continue to deal with issues until you build the truck properly.

also considering the amount of money you have spend on the 40's and all the other assorted non-needed stuff on your truck you could have had gears and possibly lockers on it by now and wouldnt be having these issues. Maybe you should seek advice about proper steps to building a truck before spending money on stuff that will just cause problems..

lastly @Spvrtan if you are going to publicly post about potential sale of your truck @65k which is about 25k more than its worth... posting on a public forum about potential trans issues is probably not going to help your cause particularly since you are so active on social media...

The cranking/pulling fan doesn't do much for both radiators (stock and SC) when you're constantly crawling/pausing at low speeds in at least 90-degree weather with no winds though. I've seen many dedicated crawler rigs that replaced their stock engine pulling fan with an electric one or augment with an electric pusher; it helps significantly according to the guy's I've spoken to. I'd have my fan hooked up to a switch in the cab so I can turn it on as an auxiliary fan when needed. I guess we'll see for the Tundra.. it might help.. it might not.. it really can't hurt to try and only costs a few bucks. I'll be able to monitor engine temps with my UltraGauge.

Yea, it's not the spindle. I made a "jig" out of some scrap metal that conforms to a good spindle; that allows me to easily check of my spindles are bent and when I checked again recently it looks fine on both spindles. I have gussets, too, as they came with the bracket lift.

There has to be play somewhere with the bolts is my guess.

The real issue is the big tires and stock gears. I wheel hard and crawl rocks in the heat and my temps never change. As long as the clutch is engaged even at idle you have enough air flow. I'm telling you homie, electric fans won't help. Check your fan clutch, water pump, and fluid. If all good get gears

As for the spindle your jig is no good. If it bends down low by the bearings you won't see a change in shape. Measure it like I showed you in Anza, from the wheel lip or sidewall to the uniball and compare to the other side. If both sides are bent then that won't tell you much either.

If the bolt torque properly, then installing new bolts won't help

Gears are definitely the next major mod I'm already saving up for but I'm trying to work out a few things over this Summer with discount/partnership via a connection I have. The majority of my trail runs lately have been overlanding and I never have the transmission issues during those long hauls and mild trails (monitoring temperatures at a stable ~200). It's when I start to do slower or more technical trails in 4-low that it acts up sometimes.

So being that I'll still be doing mostly overland runs over the next few months, I'm prioritizing doing a bunch of those mods while saving up for the gears/lockers because they're more functional for my immediate needs. The essential mods in progress are: 45-gallon auxiliary fuel system, 30-gallon water system, and triple-battery system. I need to finish these up by mid-July -- or try to.

Yea, that method you showed me was actually the first thing I checked when I started investigating this a week ago (thanks!). It passed from various points and on both sides. I doubt both sides are messed up since it's only the driver LCA being funky whenever we check the measurements on shop's laser alignment rack.

I'll check again on the torque though.

SOOOOOOOO let me get this straight...

you dont take advice on how to solve your problems, instead ....

you claim adding 700lbs of Fuel/Water/Batteries and the housings to hold those is essential (adding more truck/sprung weight) which I know for a fact will also cost more than a set of nitro gears at 1100$ and can be installed yourself...

and gears at a minimum are essential, but you know what isnt... 40's.... go back to 37's and avoid these issues until you can properly deal with 40's... or dont ....

not to mention BDS is notably weak in a few areas, but what do I know I only had a BDS kit and ditched it for proper off-road suspension...

    FIRE!

As of midnight last night, 0% contained, 850 acres, on the NE side of the lake. This may affect our trip. I'm paying attention to InciWeb Holcomb Fire and I'll keep you guys updated. Cross your fingers and hope the firefighters stay safe up there.

Big Bear is a GO. We'll just have to avoid the Holcomb area. The smoke is heading north into the high desert so it won't be an issue. I'm not going to rigidly plan routes either, we'll just wing it.

I'll be in Fawnskin around 2pm tomorrow. If anyone else want to roll with us, let me know.

@BestGen PM me your cell and I'll text you sometime before Sat with a meet spot. @roypark is going to day run on Sat also
