I wouldn't expect much out of it except more engine noise.

I have the KnN version and I get about 2 to 3 mpg more out of it but it also gives a nice throaty sound to it it feels like it might give more horse power but it is hard to tell. i am use to it because I had one on my last Tundra and it seemed to do pretty good.

That's most of my expectations. We all know more mpg would be wonderful though haha

You already have a cold air intake. That Spectre is pretty much a hot air intake.

So it's installed. I wanted to update the thread, looks good, sounds mean. The engine seems a lot less restricted and overall smoother. We will see as I drive it more though....no gas update yet

So did the truck blow up before you could get a gas update?

Bringing this back to life, I was looking to see if Spectre had a drop in and saw that they had a whole intake system. Thought I would check out if anyone ever pulled the trigger on one. This is about the only thread I see

    see sig for mods.....

Spectre is Walmart quality in my mind. The Stock unit is a true CAI. This will make more noise and sound cool, but is pulling in hot air....... Best bet IMNSHO is to go with the TRD or AEM drop in filter for more airflow, and CAI.

High flow filters do NOT make more power, they just allow the motor to spin to redline faster that feels like more power, better throttle response, etc.

I run the Spectre. I'd rather not. I don't have fender liners which leaves the intake wide open to the elements. A lot of LT trucks run this type of setup instead of OEM because it's considered safer when the liners are removed and you're off roading. It also makes a pre-filter easy to install, and clean on the trail.

Better to run with a snorkle in the dust. A lot of folks think snorkels are for mainly deep water crossing. Snorkels are ubiquitous in OzzietraIsa where there aren't many water crossings, only red dust everywhere....

Very true, a snorkel would be better but that's an involved, custom job as there's no kit fiberglass fenders. I've toyed with the idea but haven't found the motivation. And, I'm not a huge fan of how they look. :notsure:

I can appreciate the opinion. I've run K&N drop in filters in a few cars and found the Spectre to be similar in quality and an economical choice overall. They don't make an option for my wife's GX460 so I went back to K&N b/c the aFe are backordered.

I've had all sorts of setups in my GTO before settling on an over the radiator style. The Volant CAI sounded awesome and was enclosed to avoid heat soak, but ultimately the OTR style had the best results with my setup.

So I’ve got an idea that I’ll be doing here soon. Removing the maggy intake box and running this maf sensor pipe into this Afe canister. Then running an inlet 5” to the cowl area similar to Kevin. This should hopefully solve our intake issues with LT and fenders.

The Afe is the same but larger canister and not aluminum so less heat soak.

ump is already gigantic. I get you have no fender liners, but it's still not a tube front half.

This is the real solution. Just expensive. Cheaper than a new motor though
