couple write ups on the forum but yeah remove/cut the rivets that hold the guides, remove the guides then spray some paint over the bare surfaces to protect from rust.
if you run aftermarket shackles lilke CB they are on the wider side so 295 might be the max you can run. if TC or MCM shackles, 35's should fit.

i also heard just hitting them with a hammer or something to bend them a bit works too. I’ll do some research, but this helps!

There are 2 rivets holding each of the tire guides. I drilled out the rivets, moved the guides out and then reinstalled using 1 bolt to hold them in place. 35's fit fine and having the guides helps to keep the tire from shifting and hitting the shackles.

Has anyone tried to fit a 35-12.50-20 with cutting the tabs?

I respect the fact that you took the time to reinstall the guides to accommodate your larger spare. Hoping to do the same. Is your spare a true 35/12.5?

I used a side grinder to take the top off the inner-most rivets and drill out the remaining rivet...a bit of a PITA. Then pry open and slide approx. 1/4" spacer between the front brackets/frame. Install new bolts/nuts and touch-up paint. Result are the two brackets tilted back enough for a larger OD tire. Nice tight fit for spare Cooper Discoverer 295/70 R18 XLT AT3 on steel wheel. Assume the same would work on 35s, but might need a little more than 1/4" spacer.

I am running 35 x 12.5 x 18 Ridge Grapplers. Nitto lists the actual size as 34.76 x 12.52. It is a new tire so about as close to 35 as as you can get.

My local shop who also did my suspension knocked back the tabs to fit my 285/75R18. Not sure every tire shop would do this, but they did it for me.

Perfect! I just ordered that very tire last week. I'll plan to do the same as it relates to the spare mount then. Thank you!

Good luck. Drilling out the rivits was a pain and I went through 2 or 3 cheap bits from Amazon. I almost gave up and cut the brackets - really glad I didn’t.

On a TRD off-road rim ($75 on CL) I don’t have a good pic of the actual bent tab. But I have one of the spare up there. I agree that it does help to have someone guide the tire up while someone else cranks it back in. I am running a five tire rotation. Just bought the 5th TPMS to instal in it to finally get rid of the pesky TPMS light when the original spare is on the ground, which is pretty frequently.
