I need some info on the RGV area. I might have found a higher paying job. Laredo or McAllen/Edinburg areas are under consideration.
    Pros? Cons?

@FoghornTX i was born and raised in Laredo. I honestly wouldn’t want to live in Laredo there is absolutely nothing to do idk something about the area can’t explain it. I live in McAllen..and yea Edinburg is like the neighboring city to Mission among a lot of others. There’s so a lot to do here and it’s been growing a lot. Living wise is a lot cheaper and affordable especially in Edinburg with the University being so close. We also have South Padre which is an hour away or so. And Mexico! Well Progreso is safer and funner to explore and have a good time with good and drinks! Cons would maybe be weather always changing? Not a bother idk. Where are you coming from?

@KELZ84, I'm currently living in far north Ft Worth. If I throw my hat into the ring for this opportunity, I could pick Laredo, McAllen/Edinburg, or Del Rio. I would prefer the McAllen/Edinburg area due to things that I've already looked at and read about. A possible future coworker said to me today, "Laredo is boring as f**k." I'll have to believe him as he's always been honest with me in the years that I've known him.
Only time will tell if I'm offered anything at all. Maybe in two or three months I'll know something. It's been 40+ years since I've been down in that area of Texas. My father wanted to drive down to Corpus, then along the border, take a side trip into Mexico in a cab, then go on to Carlsbad Caverns, then drive back to Dallas. That was in the mid to late 70s. I'm sure that a lot has changed. And to be honest, I don't remember much.
One thing about moving there, if it happens, will be almost zero cold weather. The wife and I have come to hate it. We noticed that it's going to be in the 80s and 90s next week. Still in the 30s and 40s up here in Ft Worth.
How hot do the summers get down there being "near" the Gulf? North Texas gets really bad with that heat dome that settles over DFW. Many days over 100, if not 105 degrees. Also, hows the freshwater fishing in the McAllen area? We're looking at a possible "new construction" for a home purchase if it happens. The dollar goes a bit further down there than it does up here. The new homes down there have a bit more interesting design rather than just walls with rooms. I guess it's a bit of the Southwestern style, which is nice.

I’ve lived in the RGV and Laredo. I just left Laredo a few months ago and to be honest Laredo is boring and really hot in the summers 100+ If I remember correctly there was no winter one of the years I was there. McAllen has more to offer and is growing. The only thing I liked about Laredo is that it was half way between the RGV and Austin, since I travel to both often.

:hungry::hungry::hungry:It’s more like saltwater fishing down here. Either at South Padre Island, Arroyo City or Port Mansfield. Heat wise it can get hot and humid but I don’t think it’s nothing that can’t be handle. I’ve been to worst places. Cold weather I think the coldest it got this year was 34. But like @KELZ84 & @ab1653 said it’s growing fast every year. It will definitely be cheaper out here then Forth Worth plus I bet the Tacos down here taste better lol

@FoghornTX freshwater fishing is pretty much the damn rio grande river for bass...and it’s kinda scary dangerous only done it once on a kayak at Anzanduals park ...theres other places along river from other cities but honestly couldn’t tell you just heard negative things. I know Ppl go more west towards corpus area for fresh water and mostly salt water...summers here start in May and it gets boiling hot! 101+ Im a coach so I’m always outside and damn it’s so dam hot but perfect beach weather! Lol to me at least ..i get Tanned faster..

@KELZ84, when you say "kinda scary dangerous" with regards to fishing, that's because of...? I've always been interested in saltwater fishing, just never got around to it. Thanks for the info folks. Add anything you like.

@FoghornTX becuz when your on the rio grande river literally you can see Mexico a few yards away. You’ll even see at times when border patrol isn’t there and they are literally crossing people over into the US. At anytime if they wanted to they could grab onto your kayak/boat and pull you into Mexico. There has been several incidents and deaths that has happened from this. Guys fishing on the river with family and have been held at gun point robbed and shot. Unfortunately the time i went there was a lot of border patrol around and watching so i felt Safe i just Stayed on the US side and didn’t go to close to Mexico side.
