you missed my point. If open air kits are so bad and only have heat saturation issues why do most serious race/track vehicles have open air kits? How many serious 9 or 10 second cars with lots of performance Goodies (including turbos and superchargers) run stock box style air intake kits? If any of you do please post me some pics. In my experience serious track and speed peeps ALL run open air kits. So in doing so guess all these people Just prefer heat saturation. :burnrubber:

so you are anti pedal commander too? PC will not increase your trap times on WOT but for someone like me who added a large lift and larger tires it most definitely helps with quicker shift points and getting up to speed quicker. I love my PC! I just don’t get how so many people on here are anti this product or that product. It blows my mind. :annoyed:

I’m pretty sure if you have the displacement, opening the exhaust up will give you gains with oem intake. And dry filters cause less problems. I had a 460 once and pulling everything cat back was huge. I replaced with 3” short pipe pre rear wheel dump after that. Very noticeable improvement. Nothing to the intake was done.

Maybe I’m slow but when I read:
“Idk about that logic. People make them and they keep selling them. QVC, HSN, as seen on TV sell slot of stuff, does that make it good? A flaccid accessory that “looks” good. debunking videos are all over the internet. Pro ‘valid’ videos are all over the internet. Sell numbers don’t make a good variable as an upgrade ~ pedal commander”
That’s not a positive review…..you calling it a “flaccid accessory that “looks” good” to me signifies in my language “it sucks only looks cool”….bro if that’s not bad, I really don’t want to see something you really hate…..

Btw those explosions are messing with my head. Too many got my head spinning. Reminds me of the ole “daisy cutters” we called in back in the day…….btw, you can’t beat a good b&b pairing (bourbon & bacon)…I miss the bourbon part as I don’t drink anymore…..we can still be friendly even if we don’t agree….

I used to run a large open air filter on my 96 Cummins. I think that truck ran a lot cooler, with its almost straight piped exhaust, than this one does. For sure getting more noise is some of my motivation in getting a new setup. My 96 filter had a heat shroud but prolly didn't do much in terms of temp.

After being a mechanic for 26 years and seeing oiled air filters mess with MAF sensors even when they are new . I would absolutely avoid oiled air filters like the plague . Unless you want to pay in more fuel consumption and less performance in the long run . Free country though so have at it if you want to experiment

I had seen that video before and there are so many others pointing both ways too. I lol when he said “filter on a stick” as brought back some old memories. We use to call them that back in the day. He does bring up a very good point about when doing dyno runs to remember to keep the hood open or closed both ways.

IMG_1748.jpg There sure are a lot of wasteful spending and dumb Tundra owners out there, myself included! Appears K&N is sold out again of the kits for the new Tundras (2nd time since they came to market). Again, I’m not saying anyone should or should not buy an open air kit, I am simply stating that the anti open air kit peeps may have the numbers on this site but in reality most serious people about upgrading their vehicles for performance and/or sound use them. I also have an aftermarket exhaust and waiting for JB4 to finalize their methanol kit for these trucks and will add that to mine. So with better intake and exhaust (my believe) and a methanol kit to cool the air it will have little more power than stock, well even more since I also have the JB4 tune installed running map5 with e30 mix. Yes, it’s still not going to take a TRX or RaptorR in any race, I have other vehicles to do that , I just want the most I can get out of my Tundra for now until some genius comes out with a real tune (not a piggyback) and maybe larger turbos. I also have ZERO issues if you run a completely stock ride….you do you and just let me do me without all the negativity…..:amen:

Lol I’ll leave this here. Can’t deny the data. The issue isn’t over heating the engine. The issue is higher IAT temps then the computer pulling timing etc. aka less overall performance. Just because coke classic sells doesn’t mean it’s good for you but it tastes great. Gale banks has some hard data also.

A lot shops run open air elements because taking the time to fab a fully enclosed box isn’t profitable. Much easier to slap a cone filter at the end of a pipe and call it good. (Former race shop and car builder here)

Like I’ve said many times, you can find tons of videos for both sides but to me the proof is in actual usage. Again, go to your local speed/performance shops and look at the engine bays of all the vehicles they have. Almost ALL will have open air kits. Same for the drag strip. I personally know many racers and none use stock closed boxes on any of their performance vehicles, none. So that’s a lot of coke classic peeps….

Feel free to watch Gales video. Nothing against open elements but it’s definitely not the optimal setup for actual performance. Sure does look and sound cool though.

wait I just caught the last part of your post. So you use to own and run a race shop? Then you know exactly what I am saying. So what was the name of your shop and where was it? I have a very close friend that is WELL known in the industry and it’s a pretty close knit of peeps.

Yep, a lot of vehicles run open elements for convenience and space but the performance gain is no bueno. Shop was in Vegas back in the early 2000's. Built high hp mustangs, vipers and LS platforms. I had at one point the fastest manual 04 cobras on a stock ported blower. Great times.

I have bought and sold many vehicles over the years but wish I would have kept my Viper. You probably know this, but they were very harsh ride and only real convenience was A/C but man what a ride!! Thought about buying another one but got too many rides for now. The Viper curves/design still look good even today!!

A few weeks ago a show on motor trend called Engine Masters.
Guys on there tested a few difference scenarios when it comes to air...
NA and I think turbo'd? (might have been supercharged)

They put an aluminum velocity stack on the intakes of the NA engine and then the boosted motor, that did increase HP a little. Surprised that it increased it at all. I guess the smoother you can get the airflow in, the more explosive air mix you can get to go boom in the motor. Sort of like porting the heads.

On engine masters, don’t they do all the testing on a stand/engine dyno? It’s sucking in the cool room air in a dyno cell, not hot air under the hood of a car. But yes, a velocity stack/radius entry is beneficial either way which sounds like what their testing was really about.

I saw that episode & watch that show regularly. They use the hell out of their dyno!! They even do simple tasks/tests on like if header wraps work and wet vs dry nitrous, etc. Lots of good content on that show. David stays busy as hell (editor in chief at Hot Rod, Engine Masters, Hot Rod garage, Roadkill Garage) must be doing car related things 7 days a week!!

It is all tested on a dyno. That way its consistent. As for the air condition for the motor? They did mention before that they keep all variables the same for each test. Pressure, humidity etc. Sucking in hot air (well hotter than the outside air) will certainly decrease the explosive mix of air. I dont think anyone will really disagree with that. The colder the air, the denser it is and makes more boom in the results.

Yeah they do. A local detailer just posted pictures of a Gen 1 GTS he had detailed this week and its a damn good looking car.

My secret crush is on a C6 Z06. Just doesnt make sense with two young kids.

That dyno is very well used. David is a great host. I do miss not seeing more shows with David and Mike. (roadkill)
(Mike Finnegan moved to Georgia) Too bad Tony Angelo moved on.... he and Lucky were a great team.

Engine Masters did another episode on just air filters. In the end the smoother the air flowed into the motor (with less restrictions) the more HP it made.

Yep you gotta wait until the little monsters (I say that affectionately) have grown up. I only have one left at home and he soon will be off to college. Guess I have hit my mid-life crisis they call it. It’s a catch 22 really as I miss the kids when they were kids and still ran up to ole dad and gave him hugs and kisses vs now hardly ever seeing them as their too busy in their own lives…..every time I buy a new/classic vehicle they say dad “why you spending all OUR inheritance”…..so you know I got to ask what’s up with the “OUR”? Didn’t realize y’all helped dad make this money.
