All of the above. Especially if it gets like it was in Sept of 13. I had to tie my boat to a tree so it wouldn't take off downstream without me. The back wheels of my work truck were six inches under water, the water was running down the road and over our bridge!

I'm a little offended that you guys jacked my serious thread..........

I really needed some answers on the legitimacy of snorkels and now all I'm picturing is @ColoradoTJ and @dragos28 fighting over who gets to ride the "ornament" first :duel:

I'm mostly building my DIY snorkel for the cleaner and colder air up top (the slight "ram" air effect is a bonus, too). I can safely traverse water about 30" deep at 5-10mph is my guess due to the 40" tires and bracket lift.

When I'm slowly crossing water and I hear my radiator fan slapping the water, I back out. Unsure if the plastic blades are durable. Other times, Ive bombed through deep water. It takes a bit of time for water to fill the fender cabin where the air filter draws air from.

what are you going to use for a snorkel head? I did the calculations for our motor for a Donaldson Ram Air. It says we need a 5" inlet ram head. The inlet for our intake box is 4", but I believe that a 4" ram head does not flow the same as a 4" open tube. Anyways, I'm just curious what you are thinking of doing for a custom snorkel. Because of my LT fenders I am going to end up doing a custom snorkel too. Going to use mandrel 5" tube, 4" to 5" silicone 90 degree elbow coupler, and this ram head:

    5" ram snorkel head

But I may get a hair up my ass and get this one:

5" stainless steel ram snorkel head

    Oh one or two.
Snorkles were designed to get the intake up out of the dust not treading water. Mostly used in the Australian outback. The roads are very dusty bringing it up above the cab allows cleaner air to enter. Treading water is just one of plus of them just make sure everything else is sealed up as well.

What he said. I've been debating on getting one for the dust reason after my trip to Sedona. Got dusty out there.
