You're the first I've seen not like the 2nd gen taco. 3rd gen gets bashed constantly, but everybody borderline worships the 2nd gen.

    I fixed your statement. :)

As I said, I loved my 2005. Of the auto vs manual, I preferred the 6-speed manual. The automatics that I drove always felt like they were hunting for another gear. TBH...my 2012 4Runner felt the same in many situations. Would've loved to have had a manual trans in the 4Runner. I put 150k on the 4Runner when we traded it, so I didn't dislike it that much. haha

Ah, I took this "Manual transmission all the way for that engine" to mean that the engine was underpowered without direct control from the driver, so I viewed it as the auto and engine were not idea.

I gotcha. I liked the 4.0L V6 in both the Taco and 4Runner (I can't recall ever driving the 2.7L 4 cyl Taco). I just think the 5-speed autos were lackluster. Whether that was programming or what, I don't know. Maybe they could've benefited from a reprogramming of the shift points.

I always thought it was interesting that Toyota had the 5-speed auto in the Taco, FJ, and 4Runner but offered a 6-speed manual in all but the 4Runner of those years. The 5-speed auto, as I had it explained to me once, was really just a 4-speed with Overdrive whereas the manual was basically a 5-speed with an "Overdrive" gear. I'm not a transmission guy, so I'm not sure if that's an accurate way of looking at it or not.

That's the basics of most transmissions. The final gear, sometimes the last 2, are overdrives for effeciency.

Get back to us with your fancy, powerful Tundra when it reaches this.

Oh yeah, I did have to replace an O2 sensor about 65,000 miles ago, but other than that.....just driving slow with an ugly 21 yr old cheap ass interior that's still in perfect shape :D.

But to be fair, this is only my daily driver, we've got the 7.3L muscle for pulling the travel trailer.

The point is, while it may be boring, ugly and underpowered.....it's the most reliable vehicle on the road in my opinion and it's solid off road, that's my attraction to it.

Well the army green pro didn’t really work out, they had $2500 worth of dealer installed bs on it and wouldn’t flex it off, also we’re forcing their shipping company at $2500 vs what I had quoted at $800-900. Seqouia was pretty beat up as well, hence why it hadn’t sold in 74 days.

buddy in the used car game is going to wholesale us a lunar rock 21 pro with 40k miles on it for a few grand more. Stoked for the lunar rock!

@DexterL Love the color, and perfect lift height + tires/wheels.

Beat me to it! I was gonna quote Bif saying that Marty's truck was waxed up and ready for the weekend lol.

I had the 2.7 liter taco sx with big fat tires and a 5 speed with the 4wd transfer case on the floor. Got crap mpg but it was a freaking beast in 4 wheel drive it could squeal all 4 tires in wheel drive like it was nothing.
