Hey, I dunno either. I chalk it up to the lowered standards of society, I guess. Then again, where I live, if you have all your teeth, a job, and a house, you're a catch. LOL

I bought my Tundra right after turning 40. First truck ever, and I love it. I have NO REGERTS and I hope to still be driving this dinosaur at 200k, 300k, and beyond. No one else is making a half ton to last that long.

My first thought regarding the giant touchscreen in the Ram is, why in the world should anyone be playing with an iPad while they're driving? I prefer the Tundra's huge, old school, tactile-response buttons and knobs that I don't have to look at to adjust.

Maybe that is an "older guy" thing to say. :notsure:

Just give me a truck that pulls my boat, gets me home from the middle of nowhere every time, and doesn't give me any grief. I'll gladly pay a bit more in fuel to keep the truck away from the dealer. When it comes down to it, the Tundra was the only option for me.

Got a lot of grief from my domestic truck loving friend who bought a used 2007 Ram 1500 and paid WAY too much for it after I bought my first Tundra. He has also dumped about $5k in maintenance into it in the last 5 years. I told him my truck was built in the USA, and his was honcho en Mexico. Now on my second Tundra and this one has a topper shell on it. Bring on the old guy jokes. I'm 33 and couldn't care less.

Just an opinion from a former owner of a Dodge: Sell before the warranty expires. I'm really not being sarcastic. Mine was very nice, too, when it wasn't in the shop.

My old truck (haven't sold it yet) is a 97 F250 with a 7.3 and a lot of mods and only 116k miles on it. I love that old truck but I wanted a new truck. I have a couple of good friends that have Dodge diesels. Both of them told me to stay way from Dodges. They are both 3500s. One (has a Laramie 3500 dually) has no problems but anticipates them and will dump the truck at 45,000 miles. The other (Laramie Longhorn 3500 dually) has had his in for display problems that shut everything down and the battery won't hold a charge for more than two days. He is totally disgusted with his. When I told them I was buying a new truck they both totally approved of the Tundra as both of them have Toyotas. One bought his because he needed something that would tow a lot of weight. The other one bought his for the sparklies that the Dodge came with. I love my Tundra. But I am old and grouchy so maybe I am the stereotypical Tundra owner. I even ordered a topper.

Fully understand and agree. Is my policy with any domestic vehicle.

Before getting married last year, my second vehicle was a 2014 Jeep SRT. Kept up on maintenance, and did not have a single problem in over 7 years of ownership. Traded it in on the 2020 4R Pro since the 7 year / 70k extended warranty was up, and was getting married. Got rid of the lady’s Camry as well.

Damn I miss my Jeep SRT.

Ram has been moving up in overall quality.

They are legit competitors in full size truck market. In heavy duty market they have always been competitive or leaders in towing and capabilities.

I give credit where it is due

    HOWEVER

being a Toyota nerd for 25 years...

wake me when anyone gets close to Toyota quality.

Ram is still a good ways off.

Pretty much this. Sure, I'd love to be driving a truck and have it blast the doors off any other truck. But by the same token...who cares? If I find that....there'll be a faster truck. All I *actually* need is for it to pull what I want it to, and do so with a minimum of fuss and downtime. Any single non-Toyota vehicle I've owned has had more problems than ALL of my Toyota vehicles put together.

My best friends dad has had probably 4 rams in the past 15 years, he quit on gassers after the third transmission failed on warranty while towing a iroc drag car, finally got a cummins around 2015 crewcab just a few months ago DEF system failed, I think he spent 2K deleting it truck would not drive was on limp mode not sure on the specific failure within the system but I know they wanted to either replace the entire system or delete it.

    Sterling Heights, Michigan I believe

I get where you are going with this - but let’s remember.

A majority of components assembled are being made in some other country.

I’d personally rather a Canada build with majority US/Canada components than a US build with majority Asian components for example - not out of any quality concern - but if I’m looking to support US manufacturing - the components are where it’s at - not in assembling the pieces.

Where did you find this list - 1991?!?

Look at # 6/7/8 on this list - guess they are lumping Plymouth in with Chrysler? Who got AMC - Jeep? Surprised Ford did so well with rising cost of Edsel parts….

Oh yea - anyone who has ever owned a Land Rover will tell you that ranking is way off base too.

I'm guessing this is probably the cost for the regular scheduled maintenance that the manufacturer recommends, not repairs.

I don't find it to be that useful of a metric. For example, I saw a story one time saying that the Kia Sedona has double the maintenance costs of a Sienna (i.e. $800 per year vs $400). However, what they neglect to mention is the Sienna costs $40k and the Sedona costs $20k. It's like someone trading in a truck that's paid off to buy something that gets 2 mpg more. That said, it's still an interesting list and reinforces why we buy Toyotas.

Agreed - these stupid list are all slanted.

Some calculate regular maintenance like you said - gee…guess what a BMW cost more to maintain than a Camry. No kidding…it’s common sense. Toyota makes a million Camry’s and BMW makes 100k 5 series…they have likely beat equal development cost - so parts are 10x higher on the BMW.

Others factor “anticipated depreciation” again - great in theory - lousy in a market of one. When your on your 3rd transmission- try telling your Dodge dealer you want high book as your vehicle has best in class resale.

So I just traded in my Tundra for a 2021 RAM PowerWagon (75th anniversary edition), and I actually got choked up leaving the Tundra behind. I love Toyota and the Tundra, always will, but I'm learning to love this PowerWagon as well. I'm sure as the years pass and the mileage climbs, I'll regret my decision but until then, it's nice having all that creature-comfort in new technology and space-aged interior... not to mention being pretty much king-of-the-road in the RAM.

When I was younger I preferred Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie to Bewitched's Samantha.
When I was younger and considered replacing my Nissan with a Ram 1500. I'm glad I didn't.
After a number of Chevy's - and an escalating pattern of drivetrain problems I went to my Tundra.

I now, unreservedly prefer Samantha, and Tundra.
